Weezy Forecast

Breaking News!!!

Storm's a brewing...

On the heels of the stormy weekend on the East Coast of the US, another storm is shaking the earth, as the Weezy storm made landfall today.  This storm is sure to fill the airwaves with the sound of more of that Lil Wayne thunder…

Tha Carter IV was released today with much fanfare and though Weezy said, Sorry 4 the Wait, the wait was well worth it and this is sure to be another classic.  We expect the storm to reach epic proportion in the coming month when the Tattooed Celebrity Rapper makes a visit to the islands.

Speaking of visits, T-Pain, who’s worked with Lil Wayne in the past (and has also made a guest appearance at our Honolulu Tattoo Parlor) makes a cameo on the album.

So whether it’s storm rain, rhymes of Wayne or Pain, any, and all, we at 434 Tattoo, are here to show you how to love custom tattooing.  Come in today to our Waikiki Tattoo shop, and let’s get to rapping about your custom tattoo!

Tales from the Tattoo Parlor

Remember that show that got its cue from the comic, Tales from the Crypt?  Cue: Evil laughter but not tacky like muahaha from that guy The Crypt Keeper.

Well, Tattoo Adam has many a tale or two from his two plus decades as a custom tattoo artist in Hawaii, Las Vegas, Milwaukee, and his travels all over the world.  I wonder what an episode of Tales from the Tattoo Parlor show would be like…

INT. Tattoo Keeper’s Study – NIGHT

TATTOO KEEPER:  Greetings Tattoolings! Here’s another fabulous Tale from the Tattoo Parlor.  (EVIL LAUGHTER).  This time we visit Tattoo Adam at his Waikiki Tattoo Parlor… in the middle of doing a custom tattoo!!! (More EVIL LAUGHTER)

Cut To:

INT. 434 Tattoo – MORNING

Tattoo Adam is working on a custom arm sleeve for a customer.  Tattooist Andy Burley is getting his equipment set up to work on another customer.  All is well or as the UFC President Dana White says, “business as usual” in the tattoo crypt, or is it…

TATTOO ADAM:  “I’ve got a story for you.  One day, I’m working and this big dude comes in and he’s got on a fat chain.  You can tell he had money.  Well, he wants a tattoo from me.  So we hook it up and as soon as the needle hit his skin, this smell, like you could tell that he’d been on drugs for years, just wreaked out of him.”

CUSTOMER ONE: That happens?

ANDY:  Dude, I can tell when people drink, not like one or two drinks but seriously, it comes out of their body…

TATTOO ADAM: So this was back in Milwaukee right.  Well the same dude tracks me down while I’m tattooing out of Vegas, right, and wants to get another tattoo.  Of course I remember him, how could I forget him after that first time?  So I tattoo him again and sure thing, same smell…

CUSTOMER TWO: You gotta watch Cocaine Cowboys, that’ll trip you out.

Fade Out:

INT Tattoo Keeper’s Study NIGHT

TATTOO KEEPER:  Tattoos.  Drugs.  Smells?  You think  the next word would have been Rock’n’Roll.  (EVIL LAUGHTER).  Well, it wasn’t (EVIL EVIL LAUGHTER) and it once again you never know what expect from TALES FROM THE TATTOO PARLOR!!!  (EVIL EVIL EVILEST LAUGHTER)

ROLL CREDITS.

Come on down to 434 Tattoo and you can hear first hand a tale from our Honolulu Tattoo Shop for yourself.  Or who knows, maybe you’ll make your own story while you’re visiting.  Whatever it is, a Hawaiian tattoo design to commemorate your trip, just a meaningful piece from the tattoo flash on the walls, or your own custom piece, it’ll surely be an experience!

A Story Told in Ink Continued

Marko getting ready for "tattoo removal"

A Story Told in Ink

Artist in the Spotlight: Marko Livingston

By: JMAW

“It’s never good enough.”  He says with a laugh.  Four years into his craft and a perfectionist nonetheless.  Since my first custom tattoo session with Tattoo Adam, I remember Marko walking in, saying “wassup” then being all about his business, getting a pencil, a paper and then getting right into and starting his sketching.  He has some of the sickest stencils I’ve ever seen, posted in the shop and you totally can feel that the man loves what he does.  Adam said just that to me recently: “Do what you love?  Don’t worry about the money.”  He lets out one of those free-spirited laughs that trips me out each time because though human like the rest of us, he’s a part of the “All Ready There Club,” as if he’s tasted the secret of life, drank of the Fountain of Youth, climbed the Tree of Life, shoot, all of the above.

One day, I got the chance to ask Marko a few questions and take a peak into the words of someone who lives for artistic expression. At first he didn’t really have much to say, but it flowed quite smoothly actually, much like his custom tattoo style.  And well, Dude is already there as well.

On describing his influences as a custom tattooist: “I am inspired by everything and everyone… there’s something to learn for the rest of my life.”  I could not agree with what he said here more.  Each moment, each experience of life can teach in so many ways and it is so inspiring to take that in.

On the best part of the job:  “Meeting/working with different people, allows me to do what I want to do in life like travel and make people happy.”  As I take my notes, I feel like he’s speaking my language.  I’ve spent many a day, a night, years of my journey, reflecting on what would allow me to do that, an ever twisting/turning path, which took me into the different world of politics, universities, the food industry, being a psychic, spirituality, and now tattoos.

Marko’s 1st foray into art was drawing and painting.  “I’d draw, paint everywhere, on myself, clothes, desks, napkins, whatever.”  I am a believer in mirrors, that life reflects what’s going on within/all around us, and I recall, as a child, being a writer from early on, how I wrote on everything, I still have old napkins with rap lyrics when I thought I wanted to be a rapper (albeit a hapa-haole kid from Hilo), poems, the draft of my speech as Best Man for my cousin’s wedding, etc.

I’m getting chicken-skin.  Though I’m not in the place physically, where Tattoo Adam or Marko are at, I feel like I’m getting closer, in fact within, I feel I am already there.  I see it reflected in their vibe.  Hear it echoing in their words.  I feel it in how I finally feel like I’m doing what I love: living life fully no matter where I am.

To be continued…

Q & A With The Great One

By: JMAW for 434 Tattoo

While interviewing 434 Tattoo’s Marko Livingston for an upcoming blog, he asked to see a recent piece Adam worked on for me.  I had observed Adam ask someone this same question while I was getting some work done and I was curious why tattooists ask this so I went to the man himself, who has been tattooing for two decades…

Why do tattoo artists ask to see a completed tattoo?

“The tattoo changes.  We want to see how it turns out.  When a tattoo is first finished, it may have redness and swelling in different parts.  When it heals, some of the darkness from the ink fades out.” ~ Tattoo Adam

And there you have it.  Some tattoo knowledge for your dome.  Be sure to come on down to the professionals at 434 Custom Tattoo, the happiest place on earth and where everyone is treated like a celebrity.

We Paint On More Than Just Skin…

Next time you’re browsing our friendly neighborhood Waikiki Tattoo Parlor for your first/next/most wanted custom tattoo, be sure to look up.  Not only might you see one of the Tattoo Gods but you can also check out the paintings we have on display/for sale created by the one and only Marko Livingston.

Marko and Tattoo Adam will also have some of their other work on display next month at the upcoming Art Show at Inspiration, Honolulu Design Center.  More details on the date and time of the show to follow…

Speaking of next month, Lil Wayne visits Hawaii to hustle hard and perform on September 24.  As of now, there have been  no other Weezy sightings yet… But here’s a cool website to tide you storm chasers over and get your fix on the NOLA native and where you can download Lil Wayne’s underground mixtapes (and remixes of his hits) for free.  JMAW’s Note: If you haven’t, Dedication Volume 2 and No Ceilings are two of the sickest albums Mr. Carter has ever made, period.

Until next time, keep on tuning into the same 434 channel, same 434 time.

Polynesian Face Tattoos

Only in Polynesia, will you find tattoos as intricate and laid out in such a way on the body as this one…

In particular with the Maori people of New Zealand, the more tattoos one had was associated with social ranking and only the highest ranking could get the facial tattoo (ta moko).

While facial tattoos are not necessarily a new thing, as evidenced by Rappers Lil Wayne (coming to Hawaii in September), Gucci Mane, and the Game, they are certainly one of the more painful forms to expression and body modification via tattoo.

Here at 434 Tattoo, Hawaii’s #1 destination for custom tattoos, you can come on in and get all your meaningful Polynesian and Hawaiian tattoo designs done.   Whether you are ready for your facial tattoo, a sleeve, a body suit, one piece, as always, consultations on your tattoos are free.  So stop on by, our Honolulu tattoo parlor is open seven days a week from 10a-10p.  We look forward to working with you!

Hawaii Storm Report: Tropical Storm Weezy

There’s a tattoo storm building up and will roll through Hawaii as Rapper Lil Wayne performs on Oahu in September.  We will keep you posted about this event as it will most likely build to a category 5 type of storm in the islands.

Wayne, also known as Weezy, is a main-stay in the celebrity tattoo scene.  At last count, he had between 8 to 11 tattoos… on his face!

The guy is also a pretty successful on the music-side of things with Multi-Platinum Albums, Grammy Awards, the Young Money Record Label, as well as being the one of the most featured artists in the industry.

Stay tuned as your talented team of tattoists and reporters cover this storm.  We have had Grammy Winners (T-Pain) stop by to get inked in the past and our Waikiki tattoo shop has even been hit by a flood awhile back.  But the storm of Lil Wayne would be something far different.

Stay tuned as we track this storms development and discuss some of the tattoos of Lil Wayne…

The Country Didn’t Go Out of Business…

Alot of buzz, news (or lack thereof), whatever you want to call it was building up in the last few weeks as to whether or not the United States government would raise the debt ceiling to be able to borrow more money.  Which leads one to ask: where is all of it going?  We haven’t seen any politicians sporting fresh ink recently. At any rate, they figured it out amidst raising the dropping the price of gas a few times.

Even if the country did shut down and went out of business 434 Tattoo, the number one Honolulu tattoo parlor, wouldn’t quit on you.  Defending our title two years running, from the moment you step in for free consultations, to putting the stencil on you, to the moment we clean you up, bandage you, our tattooists are committed to giving you the greatest custom tattoo experience ever the whole way through.  And we serve everyone proudly!

Hmmm…  maybe they should put a couple tattoo artists into office and put down some ideas with fresh ink inspiring them… Now what would the 434 world look like?  Probably add alot more color to the picture!
