How to Tattoo Video Series: Consultations and Stencils

Greetings Tattoolings from 434 Tattoo, your number one destination for a Custom Tattoo or Polynesian Tattoo in Hawaii.  Our Waikiki Tattoo Shop is conveniently located in the heart of Honolulu between Oahu’s famed Waikiki Beach and Ala Moana Shopping Center and Beach Park.

In this segment of our How to Tattoo Videos, we watch as Tattoo Adam explains a key part that goes into the consultation (all of which are free at our Waikiki Tattoo Studio) and shows us how he comes up with the artwork for the Tattoo Stencil.

Stay tuned to see what the finished product(s) look like and if Tattooist Andy Burley has any other words of wisdom.  And if you can’t wait, come on down!  We aren’t Tattoolicious.  Nor are we 808 Tattoo.  They might be all good and well but we are 434 Tattoo, the People’s Choice!

Boxing’s Manny Pacquiao Opens Tattoo Shop

In the Philippines, tattoos are not so kosher.  Tattoo Adam experienced the side-eyed glances first hand as he made his way through the cities, the villages, the jungles during his trip earlier this year.

But the sentiment towards tattoos could be changing if multiple time Boxing Champion, entertainer, and local politician, Manny Pacquiao, has a say in the matter.  Pacquiao, who owns many other business ventures in addition to his 8 world titles, is a vocal tattoo advocate, and his new tattoo shop is tapped as Champion Ink in LA.

While people across the world still have differing (if not outdated) views on tattoos, this could be a positive step towards more acceptance of visible tattoos.  One customer recently shared his experience of being disqualified from an interview after being asked if he had any tattoos and was told that he would not be considered for a position (regardless of qualifications) because of it.

“At least you’re not in the mainland…” Andy Burley, a tattooist in our Hawaii Tattoo Parlor, chimed in.  “Consider yourself lucky, you should see some of the looks I get there.”

It’s a good thing we have guys out there like Manny fighting not only in the ring, but for the people.  Thanks Manny, we may not have gotten the chance to vote for you, but judging by the recent poll in the Honolulu Star Advertiser , with 7 of 10 people in Hawaii are unhappy with Governor Neil Abercrombie’s performance, maybe it’s time someone who shares your views makes a run for office here in the islands.

Tattoo Adam in 2012?  Wouldn’t you like to know what we have in store.  Muahaha!!!

We are 434 Tattoo.
And we are here for you (the people, People’s Champ two years running).

Getting a New Tattoo Video Series: Count It!

The writer of this venerable online publication worked for the US Census Bureau during the 2010 Census as a Recruiter and a Crew Leader.  During that time in Recruiting, a saying was adopted (amongst those out in the field) when some signed up for a test to become an Enumerator, passed a test, or completed a Census questionnaire:  COUNT IT!

The conclusion of this tattoo session marks Tattoo Adam‘s 1 Millionth Tattoo! Chee huu!  Grab the champagne!  Nah, joke cause he probably hit that mark long ago since he’s been tattooing 12 hours a day two decades.  At any rate, you can tell by his enthusiasm that finishing a piece is satisfying to say the least.

This tattoo video takes place after the conclusion of that session, the next step for our boy Johnny’s tattoo sleeve.  We’ll be sure to keep you posted on his progress and as always, we’ll keep you posted on the happenings and news at 434 Tattoo.

See you at our Hawaii Tattoo Parlor located in Waikiki soon!  We specialize in custom tattooing, Asian Tattoos, Polynesian Tattoo Designs, and more.  Bring your idea or check out the Tattoo Flash adorning the walls.

We are 434 Tattoo and we custom tattoo!

Tattoo Circles

While the Internet is a great way to find out about 434 Tattoo and all that goes on in our Waikiki Tattoo Parlor, we just want to thank all our customers who introduce us to their circle.

“Many of the people who get tattooed by me are be referral.”  Tattoo Adam shares while setting up for a client.  “Sometimes you meet one person and then end up tattooing everyone in their circle of friends.”  Megan, the customer, who was adding a small component to a tattoo on her forearm follows up with “That’s how I found out.”  So…

Tell your so’n’so’s so’n’so and don’t forget to holla at best friend’s aunty’s cousin’s nephew’s sister’s boyfriend about us.  We are 434 Tattoo and we custom tattoo 7 days a week, 10a to 10p, and like the post office, we deliver through rain, sleet, and snow.  Or maybe that’s UPS.  Who knows, there’s no snow in Hawaii so you’re all good in our hood!

And thank you for choosing Tattoo Adam, Andy Burley, and/or Marko Livingston as your next/first/all of the above Hawaii tattooist.

FIN

Recently, 434 Tattoo was invaded and bombarded with a line of questioning that got us thinking about what it means to represent the Tattoo industry or be an ambassador.
Adam Siehr, or Tattoo Adam, owner of the multiple award winning Best Hawaii Tattoo Shop, is licensed by the State of Hawaii and a member of the Alliance of Professional Tattooists.  He has been a part of the Tattoo Community here in Hawaii since 1999,  and has been in the industry for nearly two decades.  He has also volunteered his time as a member of different committees in the past, working with both the State and C & C of Honolulu on laws Relating to Tattooing in Hawaii.  434 Tattoo has also recently assisted Federal officials with some of their work.  At 434 Tattoo, we are all about integrity, quality work, serving the customer, and doing what is best for both the community and the State.
Laws take time, energy, and passion to craft.  Adam can testify about this from his experience with the Hawaii Department of Health, where he took part in forming committees, organizing meetings, and keeping the minutes (Editor’s Note: And so can I from my three years in politics here in Hawaii).  Did he, his brother, his sister tattooists have to do this?  No of course not, but they care and when you care, you take the time, you put in the work, and you find a way to get done what needs to be done with what you’re given to work with.
We are all for introducing new ideas and seeing the best things come to pass for our business, but please, take the time, know what your talking about, and realize that change does not occur over night.  Many of the current professionals in the industry, were there in the trenches, battling to make things the way they are today.  While our system may not be perfect, it is growing and improving.
Case in point: until about 2002, if someone wanted a face tattoo or a hand tattoo, they had to get a Doctor’s written consent before they could get the work done.  Our legislative system is what it is and we are fortunate to be able to play a role to advocate for change. People get killed in other places for thinking about this much.
And just like getting a large piece of ink done, change is a process.  When you plant a seed, it doesn’t grow sprout the next moment.  It requires nutrients in the form of the sun, earth, and water.  And studies show when love is given to plants, they grow greater, they grow stronger.  So channel that passion and do the other work and in time these ideas will blossom…
And lastly, if you want to represent the industry, there’s a good word in Hawaii to know: Pono. Pono means a great many things, but let’s go with ‘Just’ regarding a course of action that can unite, motivate, and get work done… And to if you want to be an Ambassador, you probably shouldn’t alienate those who would be your biggest supporters.
We are 434 Tattoo.
We are here for all of you.
Can I get a Chee Huu!!!

Off to See the Wizard?

We here at 434 Tattoo‘s Blog brought you the Weezy Reports and successfully predicted landfall of the tattooed rapper, Lil Wayne.  For some reason, he didn’t stop in to see us like fellow celebrity Grammy Award winning rapper, T-Pain.  But that’s not stopping us from blogging, from reporting, from custom tattooing as the champ of Honolulu Tattoo Shops.  Since the show must go on, we are here to report the arrival of another storm, albeit a storm that is probably arriving in a cloud of magical purple smoke…

Breakout Rap sensation Wiz Khalifa, is bringing his Rolling Papers, mixing it up with his Orange Juice and Kush, and chilling with the Taylor Gang for a concert in Honolulu this month, so this month, it’ll be in a week.  Stay tuned as we keep you posted if we see Wiz Khalifa Roll Up and add another custom tattoo piece to his massively tattooed body.

Until then, we’re here at our Waikiki Tattoo Temple for all of you to roll up and get your next custom piece of ink.
