We reported recently on World Champion Boxer Manny Pacquiao showing his love for tattoos by opening a tattoo shop up in Los Angeles. Pacquiao, the boxer turned politican, is not the first person to gain fame and fortune in one genre and move into the tattoo industry.
In 2006, Vince Neil opened up his own shop, Vince Neil Ink. The media may have created and destroyed the image of Vanilla Ice, but Ice grew his hair, got tattoos, found rock and metal and never looked back as he opened his own shop as well. With the APEC 2012 Conference finding it’s way to Honolulu, Hawaii, presumably so its participants could be mere minutes away from famed and award winning Waikiki Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo, we have to ask the question: Are tattoos going mainstream?
Tattoos are on celebrities, policemen in Honolulu are sleeved left and right, it’s as though we see them everywhere. Could it finally be that tattoos are gaining mass acceptance? If not, it should be…
This writer recently experienced getting asked of any tattoos during a job interview and was automatically disqualified from consideration, regardless of the facts of having a 4 yr. college degree, management experience, and good references. And the best part, the tattoos could easily be covered. But besides all of that, isn’t it just a bit absurd that the world judges tattoos? Mummies that are thousands of years old have been found with tattoos on their preserved corpses. You think since it’s been around forever and then some it’d be an okay thing…

We’ll keep you posted on this issue because this news just came in:
Socialite Kim Kardashian is filing for divorce after 72 days of marriage to her Pro Basketball Player soon to be ex-husband, Kris Humphries. Isn’t it funny how a Google Search of the News won’t bring up APEC but it certainly is up to date with celebrity scandal?
Hmmm, maybe it’s going to take a little longer for tattoos to gain mass acceptance afterall. Seems like the world it is having a hard enough time Keeping Up With The Kardashians…
