Interesting Tattoo Story

Earlier this week, an older gentlemen stopped in to get a tattoo.  Little did we know…

“He asked me to put a tattoo on his forehead…”  ~ Marko

As we reported previously in discussing Hawaii Tattoo Laws, Facial Tattoos weren’t always so easy to get and people needed a Doctor’s Note for such a thing (and one for Hand Tattoos as well).  In the past, we also discussed some of the challenges people can face when getting a face tattoo, but at this stage in the game, we’re guessing he’s not so worried about that.  (Note: Marko did not tattoo the guy.  “He asked for four letters on his forehead. I didn’t ask which letters…” ~Marko  “Rule of thumb amongst tattoo artists is to not tattoo someone’s neck, face or hands if there are no visible tattoos.”  ~Tattoo Adam)

We are 434 Tattoo and we Tattoo.  Come on down to our Hawaii Tattoo Parlor and take part in the festivities (we’ll custom tattoo you even if you’re not in the market for inking your face).  We are open every day from 10a-10p and if you catch us in November, right in time for Hawaii Veterans Day 2011, you can join us for Military Appreciation Month.  In honor of the ladies and gentlemen of our Armed Forces, we are offering 25% a session for military personnel.  Our shop is conveniently located near the military Hale Koa Hotel and feel free to stop on by for a free consultation.

From Milwaukee To Las Vegas To Tattoolicious?

Did you know that Tattoo Adam got his start as an apprentice in Milwaukee?  While there his apprenticeship was old school and included mixing drinks with Crown for the Bikers who owned the place.

Then he made his way to Sin City aka Las Vegas, where he learned the arts of the carneys working there, and was the top pick of all the tattooists there and was selected by “Iron” Mike Tyson to ink a custom tiger tattoo on the boxing champ.

Finally, he touched down and became a 808 tattoo artist where he helped put the walls up at Waikiki Tattoo Shop Tattoolicious and also helped Sugarbox gain some fame, before realizing his dream of owning a Honolulu tattoo parlor, 434 Tattoo.

Thanks for taking a trip down memory lane and getting down with some did you know.  Come on down to 434 Tattoo, our Hawaii Tattoo Shop, open 7 days a week from 10a to 10p.  All consultations and artwork are free.  You don’t pay until we ink you and “Remember, Remember the 5th of November” all November is Military Appreciation Month at our Waikiki Tattoo Studio.  All Military personnel gets 25% off a custom tattoo.  We are just a hop, skip, and a jump away from the Hale Koa Hotel.

Oh yeah, what’s a 434 Tattoo blog post without some humor, pictures, or tattoo videos?

Did someone say tiger tattoos?  This was shot was taken of Tattoo Adam as he journeyed through Thailand.

Or Mike Tyson’s Tiger?  And here he is with the pugilist turned actor and comedian.

Tattoos Going Mainstream?

We reported recently on World Champion Boxer Manny Pacquiao showing his love for tattoos by opening a tattoo shop up in Los Angeles.  Pacquiao, the boxer turned politican, is not the first person to gain fame and fortune in one genre and move into the tattoo industry.

In 2006, Vince Neil opened up his own shop, Vince Neil Ink.  The media may have created and destroyed the image of Vanilla Ice, but Ice grew his hair, got tattoos, found rock and metal and never looked back as he opened his own shop as well.  With the APEC 2012 Conference finding it’s way to Honolulu, Hawaii, presumably so its participants could be mere minutes away from famed and award winning Waikiki Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo, we have to ask the question:  Are tattoos going mainstream?

Tattoos are on celebrities, policemen in Honolulu are sleeved left and right, it’s as though we see them everywhere.  Could it finally be that tattoos are gaining mass acceptance? If not, it should be…

This writer recently experienced getting asked of any tattoos during a job interview and was automatically disqualified from consideration, regardless of the facts of having a 4 yr. college degree, management experience, and good references.  And the best part, the tattoos could easily be covered.  But besides all of that, isn’t it just a bit absurd that the world judges tattoos? Mummies that are thousands of years old have been found with tattoos on their preserved corpses.  You think since it’s been around forever and then some it’d be an okay thing…

“I can tell alot about a person by how they react to my neck tattoo.”  Tattoo Adam.

We’ll keep you posted on this issue because this news just came in:

Socialite Kim Kardashian is filing for divorce after 72 days of marriage to her Pro Basketball Player soon to be ex-husband, Kris Humphries.  Isn’t it funny how a Google Search of the News won’t bring up APEC but it certainly is up to date with celebrity scandal?

Hmmm, maybe it’s going to take a little longer for tattoos to gain mass acceptance afterall. Seems like the world it is having a hard enough time Keeping Up With The Kardashians
