What to do on Oahuʻs South Shore!

Aloha and welcome to another fun update from our Hawaii Custom Tattoos shop, 434 Tattoo!

IMG_20120819_124106

Our Waikiki Tattoo parlor is located in the Heart of Honolulu just on the cusp of the famous Ala Moana and Waikiki areas on the Southern Shore of Oahu.  Our team is led by Tattoo Adam, who owns the shop and has been doing custom tattooing for over 2 decades in multiple tattoo shops in three different states and also in traveling all around the world.  Our team also features Hawaii Tattoo Artist Andy Burley and will soon be joined by Kazan, currently at Tiki Tattoo, which is closing soon.  We also have a family member, Karl ʻDoubledownʻ Juthans on ʻsabbaticalʻ and an adventure in his Native land of Canada.

All of our team members are Licensed Hawaii Tattooists by the State of Hawaii Department of Heath.  We strive to practice the most up to date and healthiest standards in tattooing.  We also engage elements of the industry in various ways to improve our work in the trade.  Tattoo Adam will be going to get some work done in Japan from the Japanese Tattoo Master, Horiyoshi III.

“You learn each time you get to watch someone practice his artwork.” Adam commented about Horiyoshi and his experience recently.

Some tips for visitors to Hawaii is to wear sunscreen!  “The sun is the enemy to your tattoos.” Adam remarks.  And you might want to consider getting inked on your last night because youʻre not going to want to go into the water.

“The ocean is home to millions of micro-organisms and your new piece can get infected because the skin is not healed.”

Whatever you choose to do when visiting Oahuʻs South Shore, feel free to stop by and say hello!  Our shop has won Honoluluʻs Best Custom Tattooing Studio for four years in a row, we are home to some of the Best tattoo artists in Hawaii, and Tattoo Adam himself was recently recognized for his service, having been in business for over 20 years.

Youʻll be in good hands!  Just ask the Dude getting work done above.  Andre/Julio/Jordan, a man of many names found us around this time last year off the web and ended up coming back throughout the year for over 20 different tattoos!

Must be something about that 434 Custom Tattoo

An Interview with Horiyoshi III

“In the tattoo world everyone knows who Horiyoshi is…”  Andy Burley, Hawaii Tattoo Artist

Tattoo Adam, Owner and President of our Hawaii Custom Tattoos studio, 434 Tattoo, will be headed to Japan in February for more tattoo work from Japanese Tattoo Artist Horiyoshi III.   Adam has been going to get tattoos from Horiyoshi for many years, having gotten his backpiece and now the front portion of his body tattooed by the tattoo Master.

Check out this video of the man himself talking a little bit about his work and experience in the art while also sharing some views on why Tattoos are misunderstood by the media and in popular culture.

And check back for updates from Adam’s adventures in Japan!

Collaborative Tattooing

At our Hawaii Custom Tattoos studio, 434 Tattoo, we like to give awesome service, do great original/custom tattoo work, and strive to achieve new things creatively.  An extended member of the 434 Family, Linda Burley, the wife of Tattoo Artist Andy Burley, will be helping us out in trying something new creatively: a collaboration tattoo.

Tattoo Adam, Owner and President of Custom Tattooing, will be joining Andy in undertaking a collaboration piece on Linda in the coming month.  This will be Andy’s first collaboration and Adam had had this to say about the experiences he has with it:

“I partnered with another artist back in the day, one of us would outline than shade and switch on clients.”

For a peak at the process of collaboration tattooing, check out this video:

Stay tuned for pics and images right here.  They plan to work on the piece simultaneously so it will be a first in a way for both!

Aloha Karl!!!

Karl ‘Doubledown’ Juthans left the building of 434 Tattoo, our tattoo shop in Waikiki, recently to go and do some work back in his homeland of Canada.  We would like to say Aloha, Mahalo, and Malama Pono (Take Care) as he takes care of business and undertakes a new adventure.  We wish you the best and hope to see you back someday in our Hawaii Tattoo Studio.

Karl, who served as an apprentice under Tattoo Adam, has been a part of the family for years, getting alot of work from Adam and the team here at 434 Tattoo.  His apprenticeship began a bit after a conversation where Adam shared that two people get tattooed as much as Karl was (alot), at the rate he was (fast), tattoo collectors and Tattoo Artists.

Karl, who also can captain a helicopter, jumped in at the new opportunity and he got the opportunity to do a number of tattoos for people from all around the world.  In the time since his tattoo work began, he even had the chance to do some pieces on previous trips.

In the words of Hawaii Tattooist, Andy Burley, another member of our Hawaii Custom Tattoos Studio: “Bye Karl. Love you! Miss you!”

Karl’s work will remain up on the website for anyone interested in checking it out.

The Best in Hawaiian Tattoos

434 Tattoo, our Hawaii Custom Tattoos business located in Honolulu, Hawaii, has been recognized as the Best Honolulu Custom Tattooing Studio for four years and counting!

shot_1335401822527

Recently Tattoo Adam, shop Owner and Hawaii Tattoo Artist, who is in his 22nd year of tattooing, was also recognized for his years of service and achievements in the Tattoo Industry by the same Consumer Business Review in Honolulu‘s Midweek.

Adam’s style can take care of any type of tattoo idea that you have and he specializes in Asian Tattoos, Polynesian Tattoos, and Hawaii Tattoo Designs.  Getting his start in Milwaukee, having spent time tattooing on the busy Las Vegas strip, and choosing to put roots here in the heavily beaten path of Waikiki, after 22 years Adam can do just about anything.

Check out Adam about to lay a tattoo on a customer after drawing the stencil directly on the canvas without a stencil:

Come on down to our tattoo studio in Waikiki  and come get worked on by Adam or one of our talented team of Hawaii Tattooists, all licensed by the State of Hawaii.  We look forward to inking ya!

Recently Tattoo Adam made his way to Yokohama, Japan, to get work done on himself by legendary Japanese Tattoo Artist, Horiyoshi III. The picture above shows Adam as he is going through the experience of getting tattooed himself while there.

“The way I see it, if you dish out that kind of pain, you have to be able to understand it yourself.” He remarks as we go through the process, watching sped-up versions of the experience in Adam’s Waikiki Tattoo Studio, 434 Tattoo.  A total of six sessions later and we have an image that Horiyoshi III drew up in the past that Adam wished to add to the piece.

“My goal this year is to be suited.” Adam comments as he enters his 22nd year in the tattoo industry.  “The fourth session was the most intense.” He says going back to the tattoo session with Horiyoshi.  “He went over the same place.”  He points to the fine details of the figure’s hair that Horiyoshi  created on his torso.

“You learn more and more the correct approach on how to do a big tattoo.”  He says with a reverence for the Master Tattooist and Teacher.  To this day, Horiyoshi spends time drawing and painting, ever perfecting a craft that he is already considered one-of-a-kind and a true Legend.

When asked how he learned of Horiyoshi’s work, Adam replied, “I saw his work in of a magazine while still an apprentice in Milwaukee.”  Adam later sought out the Japanese Tattooist and the rest as they say, is history…

Honolulu Laser Tattoo Removal

Though it is not as common for a customer to ask a tattoo artist about laser tattoo removal as it is to ask about a tattoo cover-up, it still happens.  People in fact do want to know where to get Laser Tattoo Removal in Hawaii.  And guess what?  Even Tattooists get tattoos removed, as Hawaii Custom Tattoo Artist Tattoo Adam went to get some lines removed from an old piece that he got many years ago and has been covered up since by the legendary Japanese Tattooist, Horiyoshi III.

“I wanted to get these parts removed as a surprise for him.”  Adam said in reference to why he was doing this.  “I plan on going back to get this finished up by him and wanted him to have the canvas clear.”

So we hopped in the whip and took a cruise down Ala Moana Blvd. to the Office of Michael Pasquale where Way Gone Laser Tattoo Removal is located at 677 Ala Moana Blvd. Suite 404.  We were greeted by a hearty discussion in the lounge and shortly after met the  Program’s Medical Director, Kameron Slaten, MD, and Nikki Kerney, Laser Technician and Laser Safety Officer.

Just like we do for all of our customers, Way Gone offers free consultations prior to the actual appointment.  Using the latest, safest, and most effective products on the market, the team their is all about giving the best possible product to its clients.  Check out these pics below of the process that Tattoo Adam undertook.

Tattoo Removal 1

The pic above was the first shot of the laser and when asked later if it hurt, Adam expressed that first jolt being the worst.

Tattoo Removal 3

Dr. Kameron and “Laser Hottie” Nikki exchange a comment above during the procedure.  Pictured in the background is a woman by the name of Jeanie, who flew all the way out from Texas to help with getting this program started here.  Jeanie has been doing this for many years and has had to remove tattoos from people in the witness protection program, federal agents undercover, and more!

Tattoo Removal 5This last picture actually shows what the Laser looks like.  The size of it varies, similar to the size and area that tattoo needles can cover.  At this point, the Laser covered 3 mm of skin to catch some of the harder to reach areas and to not hit the finer detailed lines that Horiyoshi III recently put on.

Stay tuned for another pic and to show the healed product from Tattoo Adam.  This is the second tattoo removal he has ever had done and the technology has evolved vastly since.  To learn more about this organization, visit their Website at http://www.WayGoneLaserTattooRemoval.com.

Dine and Dash…

Happy New Year from your friendly neighborhood Hawaii Custom Tattoo Studio!!!

Itʻs time to get the new year kicked off right and part of that includes good wishes and also getting real and rid of the stuff we donʻt need.  With that, 434 Tattoo, our award wining Honolulu Tattoo Studio, had to call the cops near the end of the year about a customer…

Last year we ran a very successful Living Social Tattoo Promotion and it was for an hour of custom tattoo work.  We are up front with all of our clients about the estimate and our shop hourly is posted online and told to each customer when going over the details of the tattoo. If there is anything unclear at any time please feel free to ask us.

In the past, we also ran a Groupon promotion that worked out really well too.  We want to keep offering these great Hawaii Tattoo Deals to our clients, friends, and family!  Unfortunately, we had to call the police because someone ran out without paying and without indicating any displeasure until sharing their side that they were unhappy with what they thought the promotion was in one of the online forums that was brought to our attention.  We sign contracts to make these things happen and are obligated to keep it within the details of what the coupon advertises.

We Love what we do!

We Love to Tattoo you and we hope that we can continue to offer amazing deals while also plying our trade for what it is worth.  Though there are a number of Hawaii Tattoo Studios out there, we have won the title of Honoluluʻs Best Tattoo Studio four years in a row (and counting) as advertised in the Midweek.  Our team is also led by Tattoo Adam and his 22 years of service in the tattoo industry.

We offer free consultations to all of our clients and you are encouraged to schedule an appointment and time to consult and also to get your ink.  We do not charge you for artwork, only for time spent on the tattoo.  If there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to share them with the our team and if anything with Adam, who owns the shop.  We are more than willing to work with you!

Now that thatʻs out of the way… Stay tuned because we have a great Yelp Deal going on and will soon have another Living Social Coupon available so that you can continue to get great custom tattoo work at a phenomenal price.  We are hoping that you will be so happy you keep coming back like many of our customers who start with one piece and end up with bigger designs as their interest continues!
