Protect your Tattoos, Tattoos, Tattoos!

With Summer winding down, it would be easy to think that since the Sun isn’t at its most intense anymore, one can skate by on the sunscreen.  That’s a big tattoo no-no.  The Sun is the only thing that can make a tattoo lose its look over time.

Studies have demonstrated the benefits of sunscreen from skin cancer, but now they are showing that wearing sunscreen is even better for you, keeps the skin younger.

So be kind to your skin, tattooed or not, and wear a little bit of sunscreen, long-screen, stay in the shade beyond the peak hours of the sun (10a-3p) and enjoy the health benefits for your skin!

Remember this if you want to hit the Like Button on tattoos as much as this guy below did.  Note: the guy below is Rapper T-Pain who stopped by a few years back to get a tattoo from our Waikiki tattoo studio crew here at 434 Tattoo.  What did he get you ask?

A Like Button!

Harris Tattoo Poll

The Harris Poll’s figures in the past year about the tattoo industry show the growth of tattooing economically, as well as illustrates the increase in acceptance by the mainstream media and audiences.  Here are a few fun facts for all you tattoo enthusiasts:

$2.3 billion
Annual revenue of the tattoo industry

15,000
Tattoo parlors in America

21
Percent of Americans who have a tattoo

23
Percent of women who have a tattoo

19
Percent of men who have a tattoo

36
Percent of 18-to-25-year-olds who have a tattoo

38
Percent of 30-to-39-year-olds who have a tattoo

11
Percent of 50-to-64-year-olds who have a tattoo

50
Percent of people who think having a tattoo is rebellious

$150-$350
Per hour cost of a tattoo in Brooklyn, N.Y.

$200
Cost of a laser tattoo removal session

10-15
Sessions needed to remove a tattoo

32
Percentage increase in tattoo removals over the last year

The tattoo removal figures are interesting because it illustrates how people can change over time.  As these figures evolve, it is easy to argue that all of these will increase for something that was once (and in some areas) considered very taboo.
