Where to place a tattoo stencil

Ever wonder why a custom tattoo artist places a tattoo in a certain way?  It has to do with how your body will look in all different angles with the finished tattoo or how the tattoo flows.

Check out this video taken from our tattoo studio in Waikiki with Tattoo Adam assisting a customer with the process of getting a new tattoo.

The customer wants a tattoo to go below a pre-existing piece and Adam shares how placement is impacted by how the piece will flow on the body.

Enjoy!

Tattoos & Family Pt. 2

Awhile back we wrote about Tattoos & FamilyFamily Tattoos, and more, and today we’ve got a special follow-up to that.

This story probably isn’t on point to break the internet like Kim Kardashian’s backside or that blue & black or white & gold dress, but it’s slowly picking up steam.

From Blog.SFGate.com:

Screen Shot 2015-02-28 at 3.03.50 PM

This 18 mos. old was born with a strawberry colored birthmark on her leg so to support the little lady, these parents went out and got a tattoo like the birthmark.  That’s pretty cool parenting there!  The child reportedly loved it and when her Mom’s tattoo healed, touched it and said, “Match.”

You gotta love stories like this about humanity.  With so much despair and evil reported in the news, stories like help to overcome that.

So if you’re ready to get a matching tattoo like your child or any loved one, birthmark or otherwise, come one down to our tattoo studio in Waikiki.

We got ya!

Where to get a Dragon Tattoo in Hawaii

unnamed-3

So you want to get a Dragon Tattoo?  Sounds like a plan!  Let’s do it!  But first, we’d like you to consider a few things before we get started…

What type of Dragon Tattoo should I get?

That’s entirely up to you!  We can do traditional Asian Tattoo styles and make a beautiful Asian Dragon Tattoo. But you still need to decide what type of Asian art you want.  There are Korean, Japanese, Chinese, & more styles to choose from!

Don’t want an Asian style tattoo?  That’s cool too.  There are a number of Western dragon tattoos and fantasy tattoo art to pick from.

Your best bet is to bring some pictures in that you like and have a consultation with an artist. Our Waikiki tattoo studio, 434 Tattoo, offers free consultations and welcome any and all to come down and have a conversation.

We specialize in custom tattoos and would be happy to assist you with any questions as well as provide you with a number of resources from our flash, library of tattoo books, and pictures of our favorite artwork.

What type of head to get for your dragon tattoo?

So you’ve picked your artistic style for a dragon tattoo?  That’s just the beginning!  Now it’s time for you to choose the body!

Check out the work of legendary tattoo artists Ed Hardy and Horiyoshi III, who both have extensive dragon artwork projects out there.  If you are lucky enough to find one of their out of print books, you can even learn from their thoughts about the meaning of these mystical creatures, which are based on the traditions and methods they learned from.

How to shade the scales on a dragon tattoo?

You’ve got the style and head, your artist is on her/his way to getting the body to flow perfectly on your body, maybe the outline is already inked, wherever you are at in the process, it’s time to think about shading!

“There are an infinite number of ways to shade dragon scales.” shares Tattoo Adam, owner of our Hawaii Tattoo Studio. From any number of color combinations to how you actually shade each scale, there are so many possibilities in creating a truly unique tattoo!

So when you’re ready to get your dragon tattoo inked, come on down! We’re ready to get you suited up!

Bringing in your own artwork for a tattoo

Up North in Canada, there’s a father starting a tattoo tradition that is sure to turn heads.

POPSUGAR and other outlets have recently reported that Keith Anderson started getting tattoos of his son’s creations about 6 years ago.  What began as one piece has extended into a sleeve of work and it appears that it will keep going.

It’s a cool concept for a body of work and people often ask if they can get designs that they or a loved one drew inked on there body.   Everyone is welcome to bring ideas, pictures, and concepts to our Waikiki tattoo studio and we will work with customers to bring any and all tattoo dreams to Life!

Our Hawaii custom tattoo studio 434 tattoo can perform a wide variety of designs including Asian tattooingtribal tattoosHawaiian Tattoo stylesPolynesian tattoos and more!  Just swing through any day, set up a free consultation and let’s start the discussion on your new tattoo!

Tattoos for Life & Beyond

Researchers have discovered that the famous Otzi the Iceman has even more tattoos than originally believed!

Scientists have studied the approximately 5400 y/o mummified body since its discovery and using new technology, discovered 4 new tattoos, which means Otzi has 61 different tattoos!

The tattoos are small lines in areas that it is believed may have been the man during his life.  It is thought that the cultural of the practice of the time included inking different points within the body to alleviate the pain.  Otzi lived in the mountains and a lifetime of trudging up and down, amidst the cold, took its toll on his joints, knees, and back.

On a surprising note, the new ink was discovered along his ribs, which lead the research team to speculate that perhaps he suffered from some internal injury or problem with an organ.

Been trying to share with people for a minute now that tattoos are a good for the mind, body, and spirit!  This new discovery further validates the healing role of tattoos in older cultures.

So come on down and get your healing on in Waikiki tattoo studio.  Open from 10a – 10p, every day of the week, we have a team of talented, experienced tattoo artists that can bring your ideas to life.  Who knows, maybe someone will be studying your ink 5,000 years from now?  Just kidding. Or are we?  Either way, we’ll ink you up nice and proper!

What to do instead of watching the Super Bowl?

Not everyone in the world likes the Super Bowl.  It might seem blasphemous but it’s true.  And even for many die-hard football fans, they’ll not watch the Super Bowl as well because of a tough loss in the playoffs to swallow or an overall bad season.

All that being said…

What to do instead of watching the Super Bowl?

Don’t worry Homies, your friends here at your friendly neighborhood Waikiki tattoo shop 434 Tattoo got you covered!  Here’s a list of activities for you to consider other than watching football this Sunday.

1.  Go outdoors and play football

Just a thought… Might be a little more fun than sitting around for drunken hours, stuffing yourself full of wings, nachos, and other heart attack inducing foods.

2. Go outdoors and eat all of that food we just mentioned

Hey, anything in moderation, right? Plus wings and nachos and beer sound pretty cool.  Maybe this Super Bowl thing ain’t so bad after all…

3, Read a book

Ditch the iPhone or the Android and get back to some good ole fashioned reading! The world’s history was once recorded and passed down not to mention all the bomb ass stories that have been written.

4. Get your none bank, city, or state related errands done

You ever drive around once the big game is on?  Them roads are desolate!

5. Get some custom tattoos in Waikiki

Ain’t nothing better when you’ve got some free time than to finally get that new custom tattoo you’ve been wishing for!

Our tattoo shop in Waikiki is open from 10a to 10p every day and swing by and holla any time during the week, doesn’t matter if there’s the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Super Series, the World Cup, the Poker Championships, the Ironman, the Geekathon, whatever, we got ya covered in ink!
