New Tattoo for the Summer

Summer is a very busy time for the tattoo industry in Hawaii.  People from all over the world come to enjoy the weather and vacations are great times for a tattoo.

By setting an appointment, we can make sure that you are good to go on the date and time of your choosing.  It’s also good because you can talk to the artist or our team in advance in order to get your questions answered.

You never know what you might learn, like it’s best to wait until the end of your trip to get a tattoo. You don’t want to go in the ocean with fresh ink, nor do you want to be in the sun for a prolonged period of time.  The microscopic wildlife in the ocean could cause an infection and the sun could severely damage the piece because the sun is your tattoo’s public enemy number one.

Reminder: Wear sunscreen even if your tattoo is healed!

The discovery of human remains in New York and the sharp eye of a detective took a case to tattoo artists to help. Read the full story here.

Investigators are still trying to piece together what occurred and who this mystery woman was but the usage of the science and the knowledge of tattoo artists about tattooing and the customs of getting tattooed in different eras took this case a lot further than its beginnings.

Tattoo styles, go through phases, just like everything else.  For example, on the West Coast of the United States, Polynesian tattoos are taking off despite their existence for centuries and cultural tradition in Polynesia.  Americana and old school art is an instance of a style that was popular in different sub-cultures (military & bikers) and are now en vogue with tattoo enthusiasts from all walks of life.

For every two steps forward and two steps back, tattoos for the most part are enjoying a period where more acceptance is taking place.

While we don’t wish any ill will on anyone, one must admit that it is fascinating what our tattoos can say about us. Not only can they have a meaning into the individual lives we live, they can also speak to the greater movements that are in play in the world.

Apple Watch – Not for Dark Skin or Tattoos

In an obscure twist of fate that might have you wondering about Apple’s hiring and product testing processes, USA Today reports that the Heart Rate feature from new Apple Watch does not work as accurately for people with darker skin pigment and tattoos.

The comment on Apple online reads as follows:

“Many factors can affect the performance of the Apple Watch heart rate sensor. Skin perfusion is one….Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.” ~ Apple.com

While it’s doubtful that Apple’s team did this deliberately to discriminate against people, you can bet conspiracy theorists are going to hammer away at it.
