Apple Watch – Not for Dark Skin or Tattoos

In an obscure twist of fate that might have you wondering about Apple’s hiring and product testing processes, USA Today reports that the Heart Rate feature from new Apple Watch does not work as accurately for people with darker skin pigment and tattoos.

The comment on Apple online reads as follows:

“Many factors can affect the performance of the Apple Watch heart rate sensor. Skin perfusion is one….Permanent or temporary changes to your skin, such as some tattoos, can also impact heart rate sensor performance. The ink, pattern, and saturation of some tattoos can block light from the sensor, making it difficult to get reliable readings.” ~

While it’s doubtful that Apple’s team did this deliberately to discriminate against people, you can bet conspiracy theorists are going to hammer away at it.
