Man and (Tattoo) Machine: Marko Livingston aka “The Phenom”

His name is Marko Livingston.

He is a Hawaii Tattoo Artist at our Honolulu Tattoo Studio, 434 Tattoo.  He lives, breathes, sweats, and bleeds Art.  The man is the consummate professional, dedicated to his craft and in improving at everything.

When’s he not tattooing, he’s drawing…

When he’s not drawing, he’s painting…

If he’s not painting in one style, he’s painting in another (watercolor).

His dedication and unwavering desire to live and express, to improve is incredible.  I called him “The Phenom” in a previous write-up.  With that kind of dedication, would you argue it?

Pictured above are machines he built with his own hands.

In his right, the first tattoo machine he ever built, which he learned to do from the first person who taught him how to tattoo.

“I built this before even tattooing because I wanted to learn each step…”

This machine features Nicargua Cigar Wrap Coils he got from Hawaii Tattooist, Q, at House of Ink, another Oahu Tattoo shop in Kailua.  This machine also has some parts from Larry Hanks and Mike Nash and has a gun metal blue etched glass look.

The machine in his left hand has very special meaning for the man.

“I built this machine for my homie who got locked up.  He’s one of the most talented artists on the island and he is the reason I got into tattooing.  I wanted him to have something to do when he gets out.”

Marko’s friend will be out shortly and has already been working on tattoos for guards.  “I’ve seen some sick pieces he’s done there, it’s clean work.”  It must be good if someone as dedicated at growing as an Artist like Marko, is saying it.

Horiyoshi III : From Heroes to Demons

Marko Livingston, a tattooist at 434 Tattoo, our Oahu tattoo Parlor, is the new Brand Representative for Heroes and Demons, a T-Shirt company featuring designs based on the artwork of world renowned Japanese Tattoo Artist, Horiyoshi III.  And did you know…

Tattoo Adam‘s backpiece tattoo has been worked on by the man himself at Horiyoshi‘s studio in Japan.  Horiyoshi is the second tattooist to be given the title and he received his own tattoo from Horiyoshi II.  His son is his apprentice and is currently next in line for the title coming up.

We’re looking forward to see what comes from this new venture and don’t worry, Marko will still be a part of the 434 Tattoo Ohana and will be tattooing at our Waikiki tattoo shop!

APEC Aftermath: Back to Tattoos in Honolulu

It’s still too early to tell whether or not the presence of APEC in Honolulu was a boon or a bust.  Many local businesses outside of Waikiki did not see much of a difference in their clientele base.  But now that APEC is in the rear view mirror, we can get back to business!!!

At 434 Tattoo,  our Waikiki Tattoo Studio, we specialize in the custom tattoo.  Our tattooists can do just about any tattoo out there (although there are some places an artist won’t go…) from thousands of Tattoo Flash designs to choose along the walls to putting together a custom piece based on an idea, picture or theme you have.

Tattoo Circles

While the Internet is a great way to find out about 434 Tattoo and all that goes on in our Waikiki Tattoo Parlor, we just want to thank all our customers who introduce us to their circle.

“Many of the people who get tattooed by me are be referral.”  Tattoo Adam shares while setting up for a client.  “Sometimes you meet one person and then end up tattooing everyone in their circle of friends.”  Megan, the customer, who was adding a small component to a tattoo on her forearm follows up with “That’s how I found out.”  So…

Mike Tyson Roasted

“You look like you get a slutty lower back tattoo… on your face.” ~ Comedy Central Roast of Charlie Sheen

The above quote was made about Mike Tyson by another one of the Roaster’s during Comedy Central’s Roast of Charlie Sheen.  Tattoo Adam didn’t put that tattoo on the former boxing world champion, but he did put Tyson’s Tiger Tattoo on his arm.
