Bringing in your own artwork for a tattoo

Up North in Canada, there’s a father starting a tattoo tradition that is sure to turn heads.

POPSUGAR and other outlets have recently reported that Keith Anderson started getting tattoos of his son’s creations about 6 years ago.  What began as one piece has extended into a sleeve of work and it appears that it will keep going.

It’s a cool concept for a body of work and people often ask if they can get designs that they or a loved one drew inked on there body.   Everyone is welcome to bring ideas, pictures, and concepts to our Waikiki tattoo studio and we will work with customers to bring any and all tattoo dreams to Life!

Our Hawaii custom tattoo studio 434 tattoo can perform a wide variety of designs including Asian tattooingtribal tattoosHawaiian Tattoo stylesPolynesian tattoos and more!  Just swing through any day, set up a free consultation and let’s start the discussion on your new tattoo!

Top 5 Things to do in Honolulu

tumblr_nc2zpdAZ8E1qijt23o1_500
View of Honolulu and Diamond Head via @menamejmaw

Honolulu, HI, is fast becoming a vibrant city!

With some of the world’s greatest beaches a short walk or drive away, the growth in Honolulu is helping the island of Oahu stake its claim even further as one of the world’s premiere destinations for travelers looking to experience the best of everything!

1. Night Market, Eat the Street, & More in Kaka’ako!!!

The developing Urban Arts District of Kaka’ako is becoming the home of many new residents.

More people means more things to do!  The Our Kaka’ako people have actively worked with artisans, restauranteurs, and more to create activities and events such as Night Market and Eat the Street that island residents and tourists flock to each week.

2. Go to the Beach!

This list is not like the AP or Coaches Top 25 Football Poll so no worries if beach bound isn’t the number one here in the list!

From Diamond Head Beach, to the whole of the Waikiki Strip, Ala Moana Beach Park, and Kaka’ako Waterfront Park, the South Shore has stretches of sand, sea, and land for you to bask in all of its greatness!

3. Eat!!!

Award-winning chefs?  We got that.  Hole in the wall epicness? We have that too.  Plate lunch?

We invented that!

There is something for everyone’s taste and in the last 5 years, Hawaii has seen a food explosion take place cities such as NYC, Chicago, and LA saw in the past decades.  Some people tease that Hawaii is too slow, nah, we just run on Hawaiian time.

Speaking of Hawaiian, make sure you try some Hawaiian food and not just the tourist luaus!

4. Visit Diamond Head

Diamond Head is historic for many reasons! The view is truly a sight to behold and the storied bunkers of WWII keep their secrets to themselves, adding its own sense of awe to the islands.

The State recently made the hike easier so that more people could make it to the top.  Take your time, bring water, and enjoy the trek!

5. Get a Tattoo in Waikiki!

Canadian?

We have many who have walked into our tattoo studio in Honolulu from Canada and have made some great friends from the Great North over the years!  We got you next time you’re booking flights from Canada to Hawaii.

Japanese?

No worries, Tattoo Adam, aka Horiyume, trained under the master tattoo artist and legend Horiyoshi III!

Any nationality?

Yo, we don’t discriminate.  If you have any idea, come on down, we’ll give you a free consultation on a custom tattoo and work with you on creating a piece that you walk away with super stoked to wear on your body.

So come on over to the one, the only Hawaii Custom tattoos, 434 Tattoo!

The Custom Tattoo Experience

Screen Shot 2014-08-16 at 12.31.19 PM

Greetings Tattoo Earthlings!

Shoot, what’s up Tattoo Aliens, if you’re out there in Andromeda reading this!

When last we left off, we shared what the word tattoo means, in more ways than one.  Now we want to take it a step further and give your some more context on the custom tattooing experience.

The first step in a custom tattoo is getting a consultation.  At our Honolulu tattoo studio, 434 Tattoo, a tattoo shop located in Waikiki, we offer free consultations on tattoos!

The consultation is very important because it allows you to discuss your ideas for a tattoo with a tattoo professional. You will find everyone under the sun with opinions about tattoo ideas or tattoos in general, but the people best prepared to answer questions, guide you, and help you decide what to get and how it will flow on your body, is a tattooist.

Think about it…

As cool as it was for Grandma to pull out your baby teeth, you’d probably want to go to a dentist as an adult for any questions involving your teeth!

With over 22 years of experience in the tattoo industry, President and Owner of 434 TattooHoriyume Tattoo Adam Siehr, knows a thing or two or many about the different types of tattoos out there.  The whole team here in our Waikiki tattoo studio is well-trained, licensed and prepared to give you proper guidance in getting a tattoo!

Once the consultation is completed and a design is chosen upon, give the artist an opportunity to prepare the art for you.  While you might be able to get a drawing completed and inked in the same day, your tattooer has valuable time and other appointments so it’s something to keep in mind.

Remember, that full-sleeve on your friend or that backpiece on your favorite model is a lot like Rome, not built in a day, and most times, the bigger it is, won’t be completed in a day.  Though it is possible to do a large amount of work in a sitting, there are many variables to factor in, so you might have to be patient.

You can schedule your appointments as close together as you like though it is recommended to let the skin heal for at least 1 to 2 weeks, 2 weeks being a bit more ideal.  Sometimes that isn’t the case.  Just ask Horiyume, who goes to Japan for his work from Japanese tattoo legend Horiyoshi III.

Horiyume will have appointments as close together as every other day in order to maximize the amount of time he has to get worked on while visiting Japan.  Crazy!

As you get your custom piece, just like in Life, enjoy the Journey.  While you can always add different aspects to a tattoo or connect a chest tattoo to your arm sleeve, with each step in the tattoo Journey, you are left with a visual reminder of your Life.

As beautiful as the finished product is, remember to find the beauty in the process because that’s another element that makes your custom tattoo unique.

Once the custom tattoo is completed, you’ll have something that no one else can walk into a shop and say, I want exactly that because no two artists are the same and no stencils will exist.  The Japanese tradition is to give the stencil to the client and while this might not be the practice to give the stencil everywhere, no one else will ever have that stencil on a custom piece because the unique factor is what makes it custom.  While there might be certain universal artistic similarities but you will have unique art for life because repeat, no two artists are the same.

Once again, consultations on tattoos are free here at our Hawaii tattoo shop.  Our shop is open 7 days a week from 10a to 10p.

So come on down and get your ink on!  You will not regret it as its our mission to make this the happiest place around and to leave you satisfied!

For an overall recap of the the recent Have Tattoos Will Travel series:

Pt. 1

Pt. 2

And for more fun stories, stop by and talk to the man in person!  Our Hawaii tattoo shop is open 7 days a week from 10a-10p and is led by Adam, a tattoo artist with over 22 years of experience in the field!

Consultations are free so make an appointment, especially during the summer when business is in the busy season.

Mahalo and we’ll see ya soon!

Have Tattoos Will Travel… To Japan Pt. 2

We mentioned last time around that Tattoo Adam enjoys travel because it benefits his Soul and it’s true.  Last time around we saw in pictures how much fun he was having.  Let’s see what the Owner of our tattoo studio in Waikiki was up to next…

Two days of no sleep and not feeling tired so the party continued!  Adam met another inked brother while out in Japan!  Tattoos were long looked down upon in many cultures and Japan is no different but with the passing of time, this universal art form is a great connector!  As the Buddha taught, we are all interconnected!  Speaking of the Buddha…

After that, it was time to see the Master in one of his physical manifestations…

And another manifestation down in Kamakura.

unnamed-2

After some spiritual practice, Tattoo Adam was approached…

unnamed-3

By monks!  They spent some time chopping it up and Adam was told he’d visit one of the monk’s homelands this year.

Stay tuned for more imagery and stories from Tattoo Adam’s travel adventures!  And if you’re in need of ink or perhaps a piercing, stop by 434 Ena Rd. and get your custom Hawaiian tattoos done by the professionals!
