In the Spotlight – Tattoo Apprentice Michael Amaral

Our Waikiki Tattoo Studio has welcome some new blood into the family here at 434 Tattoo and we’d like to introduce you to Michael Amaral aka Komb.  Learn more about one of the newest in our ohana here!

Michael was referred by none another than a former member of our team and family member Marko Livingston.  Marko has gone on to take on more solo work and has even opened his own Hawaii tattoo studio!  Michael, Marko, and Horiyume Tattoo Adam are all bound by a common love for painting, in particular, graffiti!

Over the course of his journey, which took him from Campbell High School to the University of Hawaii, Michael has done music and went to school for architecture, which led him to explore painting further. He began to develop a deep appreciation for tattoos and has been an apprentice with our tattoo studio in Waikiki for 3 months.

Fun fact: He is also serving this country as a member of the US Navy, which has taken him overseas for work in Italy and Japan.

A push behind his drive to tattooing is because he loves to experience new things, see the finished tattoo product, and wants to share that joy with people who are seeking to experience it through their own new tattoos.

Check out Michael’s artwork on Instagram (@_kombism_) and watch the progression of this talented young artist!

Rappers and Tattoos

What is it about Rappers and tattoos?

Rick Ross just showed his love for the NBA’s Miami Heat in a face tattoo!  Check out Ross sporting a Heat logo tattoo on his face online at GQ here.

Then there’s Drake, the rapper/singer, from Canada, with roots in Tennessee, who recently got a piece repping Toronto (his third, no read on and see that it’s his second…), where interestingly enough, he was hired by the Toronto Raptors, another NBA team, to consult on their new look and branding.  You can read about Drake and his tattoos here.

I guess when you’ve got more money to throw around, you can do whatever you want with your ink?

Just ask Gucci Mane, who got an Ice Cream cone on his face?

main

We know a thing or two about rappers and tattoos as well.  Grammy winning recording artist T-Pain stopped by the shop a few years back and got his famous Like Button Tattoo while visiting Hawaii.

Perhaps the answer to why rappers getting tatted in the way they do lies in the fact it read: ‘You don’t have to Like me’

Whatever the case may be, we like you and we’re ready to get your ink on!  Stop by 434 Tattoo, our tattoo studio in Waikiki, today and check us out!

Dine and Dash…

Happy New Year from your friendly neighborhood Hawaii Custom Tattoo Studio!!!

Itʻs time to get the new year kicked off right and part of that includes good wishes and also getting real and rid of the stuff we donʻt need.  With that, 434 Tattoo, our award wining Honolulu Tattoo Studio, had to call the cops near the end of the year about a customer…

Last year we ran a very successful Living Social Tattoo Promotion and it was for an hour of custom tattoo work.  We are up front with all of our clients about the estimate and our shop hourly is posted online and told to each customer when going over the details of the tattoo. If there is anything unclear at any time please feel free to ask us.

In the past, we also ran a Groupon promotion that worked out really well too.  We want to keep offering these great Hawaii Tattoo Deals to our clients, friends, and family!  Unfortunately, we had to call the police because someone ran out without paying and without indicating any displeasure until sharing their side that they were unhappy with what they thought the promotion was in one of the online forums that was brought to our attention.  We sign contracts to make these things happen and are obligated to keep it within the details of what the coupon advertises.

We Love what we do!

We Love to Tattoo you and we hope that we can continue to offer amazing deals while also plying our trade for what it is worth.  Though there are a number of Hawaii Tattoo Studios out there, we have won the title of Honoluluʻs Best Tattoo Studio four years in a row (and counting) as advertised in the Midweek.  Our team is also led by Tattoo Adam and his 22 years of service in the tattoo industry.

We offer free consultations to all of our clients and you are encouraged to schedule an appointment and time to consult and also to get your ink.  We do not charge you for artwork, only for time spent on the tattoo.  If there are any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to share them with the our team and if anything with Adam, who owns the shop.  We are more than willing to work with you!

Now that thatʻs out of the way… Stay tuned because we have a great Yelp Deal going on and will soon have another Living Social Coupon available so that you can continue to get great custom tattoo work at a phenomenal price.  We are hoping that you will be so happy you keep coming back like many of our customers who start with one piece and end up with bigger designs as their interest continues!

From Hawaii to Getting Tattoos in Japan

The owner of our Waikiki Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo, Tattoo Adam left the islands recently to go to Yokohama for some respite and to get his own tattoos worked on by the famous Japanese Tattoo Artist Horiyoshi III.
Here are a couple shots of the fun Tattoo Adamhas been having representing our tattoo studio in Hawaii while abroad.

Adam had this to say about the picture above:
“I like to try and do things that are not allowed in America when i go to other countries, one thing is i like drinking beer on the street and train!

The other is eating meat you cant find on the menu in America, here is a picture of raw horse meat mixed with raw egg, its so Oishi, like fresh sashimi, I have been craving this for years!

I have to admit , I was a little afraid at first, but once you taste it, damn its good! Thank you Hiro san, Akiko, Hata san, and Rei san, this is one memory I will think about for a long time!”

Here we have Adam visiting Japanese Tattoo Parlor, Ink Rat Tattoo.

Tattoos in the Workplace

“You can’t fire me, I’m drunk!” ~ Tattoo Adam

Doubledown getting a tattoo, from himself, while at work!

Inked Magazine has been pushing a Tattoo Lifestyle themed brand of clothing Steadfast Brand Clothing hard online and two t-shirts quite simply read:

“Tattooed and Employed.”

and

“I Want A Tattooed President.”

In the past, tattoos were commonly associated with criminals in America and parts of Europe and Asia.  In Polynesia and other indigenous cultures, men, women, and even some children were tattooed or ritually scarred as parts of rites of passage.  Whatever the case, tattoos have been around for a long time, longer than formal employment and job interviews came to be and longer than the United of States has ever existed.  So it’s interesting to see these types of shirts come out echoing sentiments that are surely not anything new.

Here’s to the World taking a step towards seeing without blinders and judgments!

Another phrase Inked has been pushing is:

“I wear my Ink with Pride!”

Well, here at 434 Tattoo, Honolulu’s award-winning tattoo shop, we proudly work at this fine art and are stoked to ink you the best on the island!

We are open 7 days a week from 10a to 10p.  Feel free to stop in and schedule a free consultation so that we can get you visibly tattooed before your next job interview ; )
