Oahu Tattoo: Tattoo Faux Pas

“It’s your right to share a tattoo with someone if you choose to.” ~ Tattoo Adam

At one time, having a tattoo would have been considered faux pas.  In this day and age, with it becoming more and more the norm, here’s some tattoo etiquette for your dome!

Ask to see a tattoo.

It’s the person with the custom tattoo‘s right to share it with you if they choose.  Even if you can see some of it, it’s inappropriate to grab the person, turn their arm or other body part at your discretion, lift up their clothing, etc.  In fact, if you think about it, it’s sexual harassment if you touch another person without their consent and it’s certainly awkward to remove someone’s clothing unless they give their consent.

It’s really strange that people do this because what makes people just think they can go up to a person they don’t know or don’t know well and grab them.  In some places, people get maced. In others, they cane people for things like spitting.

So I ask the question: why, really, why?

This writer recently experienced a number of people grabbing a newly tattooed piece that was worked on by Tattoo Adam of Oahu Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo.  One woman went so far as to trace the design with her fingers.  It’s not cool to just start touching someone you don’t really know.

Just a few thoughts there Friends.  Nothing world-changing like T-Pain getting tattooed like he did at our Waikiki Tattoo studio just a year ago but something this writer felt important to share with people.

Hawaii Tattoo: 434 Tattoo, A Year in Review

Another year is winding down at our Waikiki tattoo parlour, 434 Tattoo, and while Lil Wayne or Wiz Khalifa skipped out at our offers to tattoo them, we still had a monumental year since starting this humble online publication but a blink of a year ago (flashback to our first ever post).

In January, we got off to a famous start as Marko inked Grammy Award winning Rap Superstar T-Pain!  T-Pain got the real pain and Marko sketched and did a small piece for him while he was on the island.  And T-, if you want some more pain, Marko’s got you on the Tattoo removal:

Just joking and onto February, Tattoo Adam inked this custom lion tattoo, a sequel to the first piece you’ll see soon enough:

As the Ides of March rolled in, we remembered the Waikiki Tattoo shop, Hart and Huntington, who saw their doors closed.  We wonder who was surprised by the short tenure of the corporate tattoo shop?  In Hawaii, where our Oahu tattoo parlor is located, they say that the rain is a blessing, while April showered, we were showered with a visit from tattooist, Ariano Delano.

May was a big month for us.  Tattoo Adam took off on an adventure in the Philippines, and JMAW, joined the 434 Tattoo Ohana as Blogger/Content Editor.  Here’s his first piece with us:

Oh, wait, meant to put his first written piece, that’s the first custom tattoo he ever had from Tattoo Adam.  June saw our team member, tattoo artist Andy Burley get married by Minister Adam (he wears many hats) and our shop g0t featured in the new island publication, 808 Ink Magazine.  They might have some typos but you can’t mistake the custom ink coutesy of Tattoo Adam.

In July, we had a few laughs courtesy of a cheerleader with some attitude, and were visited by another celebrity as fashion and jewelry designer of Rock’n’Roll Couture, Amal Guessous, stopped by.

August came on down and we explored the world of facial tattoos, polynesian tattoo style and in September, the fun didn’t stop as we started to take you behind the scenes with our Tattoo videos.  Adam and Marko took ‘Center Stage’ and were featured in an Art Show.  We even did a public service announcement about tattoos.

As we entered Fall, October saw us drop a little 411 about the history of the tattoo laws in Hawaii, and we also held our first ever Military Appreciation Month in November.  November was a huge month in general as Hawaii was the site of APEC 2011 and our deals didn’t stop as we offered more appreciation deals to the agencies to come in and get some ink done. What else you ask? Well, Adam and Arlita’s son, Andrew celebrated his first birthday!!!  And we broke into the Google Top Ten in a category which eluded us for some time.  That Google…

Marko even cut a commercial for us!

And that pretty much brings you up to date to December.  It’s been a crazy year and from our crazy (in a good way) crew to yours, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year.  We’re looking forward to putting a piece of beauty on you soon.

Q & A With The Great One

By: JMAW for 434 Tattoo

While interviewing 434 Tattoo’s Marko Livingston for an upcoming blog, he asked to see a recent piece Adam worked on for me.  I had observed Adam ask someone this same question while I was getting some work done and I was curious why tattooists ask this so I went to the man himself, who has been tattooing for two decades…

Why do tattoo artists ask to see a completed tattoo?

“The tattoo changes.  We want to see how it turns out.  When a tattoo is first finished, it may have redness and swelling in different parts.  When it heals, some of the darkness from the ink fades out.” ~ Tattoo Adam

And there you have it.  Some tattoo knowledge for your dome.  Be sure to come on down to the professionals at 434 Custom Tattoo, the happiest place on earth and where everyone is treated like a celebrity.

Hawaii Storm Report: Tropical Storm Weezy

There’s a tattoo storm building up and will roll through Hawaii as Rapper Lil Wayne performs on Oahu in September.  We will keep you posted about this event as it will most likely build to a category 5 type of storm in the islands.

Wayne, also known as Weezy, is a main-stay in the celebrity tattoo scene.  At last count, he had between 8 to 11 tattoos… on his face!

The guy is also a pretty successful on the music-side of things with Multi-Platinum Albums, Grammy Awards, the Young Money Record Label, as well as being the one of the most featured artists in the industry.

Stay tuned as your talented team of tattoists and reporters cover this storm.  We have had Grammy Winners (T-Pain) stop by to get inked in the past and our Waikiki tattoo shop has even been hit by a flood awhile back.  But the storm of Lil Wayne would be something far different.

Stay tuned as we track this storms development and discuss some of the tattoos of Lil Wayne…

The Champ is Here

WWE Superstar CM Punk won the WWE’s most prestigious Championship over the weekend.  The Champ has been making waves in news because of his shoot given, displaying honest feelings about his public disclosure of being fed up with the WWE a few weeks back.  Now, it’s possible he may be quitting the top wrestling organization in the world despite capturing the belt in his hometown of Chicago, playing up the angle that he’s left the organization.

So what does CM Punk have to do with 434 Tattoo, Honolulu’s number one stop for Polynesian tattoos, Hawaiian custom tattooing, and the custom tattoo experience?  Well, we also make waves (of art), CM Punk’s covered in tattoos, and we just won the “championship” title of Tattooing Studio of the Year from Consumer Business Review.  This is our second such award, having captured the organization’s Custom Tattooing Studio of the Year last year.

Check out these blogs of some other champs we’ve tattooed from different areas:

Mike Tyson (Former Undisputed Boxing Heavyweight Champion)

T-Pain (Grammy Award Winner)

Chicago Blackhawks (NHL Championship Team)

What are you waiting for???  It’s time for the next champ, You, to come here!

Celebrity Tattoo Update: Amal Guessous

434 Tattoo has seen the likes of Grammy Rapper T-Pain and actor Stephen Graham get ink done from our team of tattooists here in our Honolulu custom tattooing shop.  And if you check out the pic above (story here), Tattoo Adam had the opportunity to give Iron Mike Tyson a tattoo before his infamous fight with Evander Holyfield

Well, seems like the celebs have also heard about the Tattoo train in the shop and have to see it for themselves.  Amal Guessous, founder of A&G by Amal Guessous Rock’n Roll Couture, stopped in over the weekend to get some work done by Adam.  Marko spotted a bodyguard outside and a quick Google search filled us in on the who, what, where, when, how, know what I mean???

Much thanks to Amal for stopping by.  “He already had many tattoos done by well-known artists in LA and it’s always an honor to see that and give someone a custom tattoo as well.”  ~Tattoo Adam

It’s also an honor to tattoo any and all who walk through our doors.  Stop in today for your free consultation and we’ll be happy to hook you up!
