#Throwback – Traditional Tattoos at the Hawaii Tattoo Convention 2016

The Pacific Ink & Art Expo, came, it saw, it conquered!  This year’s event once again brought together International Tattoo Artists, American Tattooists, and Hawaii’s own together for thousands of people over a weekend in Honolulu.

Here are a few photos from the event that pay honor & respect to Polynesian Tattoo & Japanese Tebori Tattoo Roots, including a shot of our very own Horiyume Tattoo Adam!

Getting a tattoo is meaningful because you wear it for life and it has depth for a great many.  If you want to explore further what the process is, consider collecting traditional piece.  It’ll be one of a kind and you’ll be linked to the ancestors of tattooing because of it.

If you weren’t able to make it the Expo or are interested in Tebori tattoo work in Hawaii, stop by and get covered in ink by us here at 434 Tattoo!  Our team of talented tattoo artists are happy to serve ya out of our tattoo shop in Waikiki and Horiyume has studied under Master Tattoo Artist Horiyoshi III for many years.

Come on by, we’re happy to serve ya!

Accidental Tattoo Stories

Not all tattoo stories are created equally.

The New York Post and other news outlets reported that a woman got NBA player Jeremy Lin’s name tattooed in kanji recently… without knowing! Apparently, a friend told her it meant something else and only after getting the ink, did she learn that the tattoo was not what she thought.

Rather than get mad, this woman embraced it and became the ultimate Jeremy Lin fan, consuming information about him, watching videos, and even going so far as to buy a ticket to a Hornets game to see her ‘ink’ play in real life.  Lin, by all accounts a pretty cool guy, took a picture of a marker version of her ink and shared it on social media.

Moral of the story: Seek out an authority to find the meaning of something you are getting tattooed rather than blind faith.

While this woman made the most out of the experience, not everyone will have the same response, or luck in having it represent something cool in a different way.

We welcome any custom tattoo questions that you might while you’re visiting our tattoo studio in Waikiki.  We have a wealth of experience and many contacts who can assist with just about any question.  Feel free to contact us today to schedule an appointment or to ask us a question!

Aloha!

Safest Places to get Tattooed in Hawaii

Screen shot 2016-03-22 at 4.09.31 PM
In progress – a vivid custom tattoo by Horiyume

Check out this new report online about what makes up the ink that is tattooed on people to create the permanent tattoo that many people wear.

“When I began, I learned the old school way of mixing your own inks.” Tattoo Adam (Horiyume), proud owner of our Waikiki tattoo shop shares.

Believe it or not, back in the day, people had to mix their own inks, knowing exactly what went into each color, in the exact quantity, and safely.  Horiyume was trained in this fashion so that he knew the history and culture of tattooing.

“You gotta know & respect your roots.” he adds.

Times have changed and it seems like a new company offering ink, pops up every month, trying to sell something special.  While many companies are reputable, buyer beware because sometimes, some companies don’t do it right or include an ingredient known to have bad side effects ranging from an ugly tattoo to infection that can really do harm to a person’s overall health.

Here at 434 Tattoo, one of the best tattoo shops in Hawaii, we only use products that are safe, legal, and in accordance to the rules and regulations of the State of Hawaii Department of Health.  Our team is trained in all the proper protocol to administer tattoos in a healthy fashion and each tattoo artist who walks through our doors to work is licensed by the Department of Health.

“It’s important to me that all of our customers have a great experience here.” Adam adds.  “We want this to be one of the happiest places they visit as they created this lasting memory.”

Create a happy memory for yourself here at our Waikiki tattoo studio knowing that your in the hands of licensed and trained professionals! We’re open 7 days a week, rain or mostly shine, from 10a – 10p.

Looking forward to inking ya!

New Waikiki Tattoo Happenings

Horiyume with one of his famous clients, Mike Tyson

What up Hawaii Tattoo Lovers!

2016 is rolling along and we’re excited to work on some big custom tattoo pieces!

Along with the excitement we have some awesome news, Tattoo Adam (Horiyume) is now available full-time at our tattoo shop in Waikiki 434 Tattoo! This is a great time to start a new tattoo with him as we close out the Winter Season and to take advantage of his increased availability.

Why start thinking about inking now? Why not! Nah, joke, here’s a few tips to consider:

  1. Tattoos are priced and constructed based on the hours it will take to complete. For larger pieces and pieces in complex area of the bodies, more time will be necessary to complete the tattoo.
  2. Adding a little color? While some tattoos (depending on the size) can be completed in one sitting from one to three hours, larger more intricate pieces actually take a considerable amount of time longer. Many backpieces have 24 or more hours, that’s over a days worth of work put into them! For the client’s sake and health, it’s often best to break that up into smaller sessions.
  3. You’re not the only person getting tattooed. A tattoo artist books in advance because shops will often have multiple customers a day (think any other situation where you see someone by appointment) as well as walk-ins. While we want to ink you 24/7, it isn’t always realistic and we want to be sure to offer the best service to all who walk through the doors of our Waikiki Tattoo Shop!

Now come on down and share your next great idea with us. Our artists love to create original custom tattoos and are here to serve us.

It’s probably a little bit of both. Hopefully, acceptance and tolerance prevails during the next wave for getting inked isn’t so popular.

Best Waikiki Tattoo Shops

Screen shot 2015-07-29 at 11.53.53 AM

The term best is relative to experience and in this day and age weighed against reviews, word of mouth, online or otherwise.  We like to think we are among the best Waikiki Tattoo Shops because we have all of the above going for us.

Awards? We got em! Our waikiki tattoo studio has received the award from the consumer business review for best custom tattooing studio in Honolulu for 5 years running!

Loyal clients? We have and are so grateful for all of them/you too!  Many of the clients have been with our Founder, Tattoo Adam (Horiyume), since he first came to Honolulu years ago.  The internet might not be quick to recall the days of Sugar Box, the walls going up at Tattoolicious, and history might have faded some of the great memories but Adam’s been tattooing for over two decades and has put in the time to master the craft.  The returning long-time customers speak to that!

Great reviews? We have quite a few of those too.  While we admit there have also been some that didn’t cut our high standards, we take your feedback to heart to improve the customer experience by removing artists who contributed to the negativity and constantly finding ways to make our shop better.

We urge you to read through all that’s out there and figure out what you want to do.  You work hard for you money and so do we.  We want you to be happy so come down and schedule a free consultation.  That’s a great time for us to talk stories about your concept, what you’re looking for, and for you to see if you have a rapport with our team.

If you like it, which so many over the years, well let’s get to inking ya!

With so many tattoo shops popping up and located all across the world, it’s easy to wonder where you should you even begin to look for a Waikiki tattoo shop while visiting the island of Oahu!  Let the search end now!

Check us out, we got you!

Our Waikiki tattoo studio is open 7 days a week and you can come on down and get inked by the best in the business here in Hawaii! We have won the award for Honolulu’s Best Custom Tattooing Studio for five years running and our Owner/Lead Artist Tattoo Adam Siehr has over two decades of experience in the business.

If you’re also interested in finding an artist who practices Tebori in Hawaii, look no further!

Adam, also known as Horiyume, a name he was given by Japanese tattoo master Horiyoshi III, specializes in Japanese tattooing and custom tattoos (pictured above).  In the past few years, Adam converted an area of our tattoo studio in Waikiki to a space to practice Tebori, the traditional form of Japanese tattooing.

We even have Takashi from Japan, by way of Brooklyn, as a Guest Artist starting from July 30.  Takashi only practices tebori and this is a great opportunity for you to experience this sacred tradition.

Contact us today to schedule your appointment.  We offer free consultations and strive to offer great service.

Tebori Tattooist Spotlight: Takashi Matsuba

Tattoo Artist Takashi Matsuba makes his way to Hawaii at the end of July 2015 and will be a special guest artist at our Waikiki Tattoo Studio, 434 Tattoo.  Takashi travels across the world to tattoo and is currently in Brooklyn, New York, as he prepares to make his way to the Aloha State.

Specializing in traditional Japanese tattoo style, Takashi has been practicing the art of tattooing and has been a tattoo artist over the last 12 years.  With Japanese tattooing his specialty, Takashi will only be performing tebori while visiting.

Tattoo Adam, Owner and Lead Tattooist at our Hawaii tattoo shop, has been practicing the ancient, traditional style for some time.  Adam created a special area in the shop dedicated to tebori and it’s an honor to have someone of Takashi’s talent and skill join the team.

For his decades of service in the tattoo industry, with a love and dedication to the Japanese tattoo  culture and style, Adam was given the name of Horiyume, by Tattoo Legend Horiyoshi III.

“If you have ever wanted a traditional Japanese tattoo experience, don’t miss Takashi’s visit!” shares Tattoo Adam.

We are now scheduling appointments for Takashi, who will get to inking on July 30.  Contact us today and we’ll get you set up with this epic artist for a once in a lifetime experience that is rare to find outside of Japan!
