Tattoo it Up!

Greetings Earthlings from your favorite Honolulu Tattoo shop, the award-winning 434 Tattoo!  The Holidays are fast approaching/upon us and it is time for Thanksgiving this week.

In light of this, here’s a cool tattoo story about someone’s first tattoo.  The first time anyone gets tattooed is a bit sacred in many ways. The first tattoo represents many different things, has even more meaning in various ways, and is always a truly unforgettable experience.

This woman, aged 83, decided to get the expression, “Carpe Diem.”  The Carpe Diem tattoo means “Seize the day” and the phrase was popularized in the Hollwood movie, Dead Poets Society, aptly named for the words are the last line of a poem by you guessed it, a dead poet!

So Seize the Day because you never know what is going to come or go, start or end, and have a great week of happenings!  And if seizing the day involves getting your first tattoo or a tattoo in Hawaii, please feel free to holla at our crew!  Our team of talented Hawaii Tattoo artists, led by Tattoo Adam and his 20 plus years of tattooing, is more than happy to help you with your very own custom tattoo.

Take care and ahui hou (see ya in Hawaiian)!

When Not to Get a Tattoo

We are pro-tattoos!  We are a Hawaii Custom Tattoo Studio afterall and it would make sense that we are all favor freedom of expression and inking your body.  With that, we are all for responsible tattooing.  If you get something, you have to think of a way to live it.  You might be able to cover-up a piece from time to time (which our crew specializes in since we do anything custom) but some pieces just don’t work out…

Over the years, especially with the advent of the internet, tattoo artists as a whole of been getting a bad rap because of the actions of a few out there.  We have shared tattoo news from around the world here on the official blog for our Waikiki Tattoo studio, so you might recall a few of them.

Like the man who tattooed his dog… or the woman who tattooed her tattoo artist boyfriend’s name on her face right after meeting him.  It’s quite a world out there and we’re not here to judge but again, we do think it’s important to ink responsibly, which is why our talented Hawaii Tattoo Artists are all licensed and act in accordance to the Hawaii State Department of Health and the State of Hawaii Laws relating to tattoos.

So we have to ask the question: Is Google about to ink responsibly?  A new technology that Google has put in to work, a removable electronic tattoo on the throat, can apparently tell when people are lying.  Lying certainly isn’t cool but that sounds a bit much from the the biggest brother on the internet…

Just saying.  Anyhow, think twice before you do something you regret with your body and if you have any questions, come see one of the tattoo professionals at our  tattoo studio in Honolulu.  We offer free consultations on all tattoos and are open 7 days a week.

Celebrity Tattoo News

Famous Tattoo Artist Kat Von D. of Reality TV fame recently made headlines when she shared a new piece that she did for the controversial celebrity singer, Miley Cyrus.

Cyrus has been making waves with her new look, spicy lyrics, and scarcely clad pictures and videos.  No stranger to fame having grown up in the spotlight of her father, Country Music Star Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley recently sought out the famous tattooist to do a particularly meaningful and not so controversial tattoo.

Miley Cyrus' tattoo on her arm

The portrait tattoo is one of Miley’s Grandmother.  Kat shared the image above via Twitter (coincidentally some interesting PR just as the Twitter IPO launches, Illuminati anyone???), and any time a celeb does something to their body, it’s like ‘Bam!’ as Emeril Lagasse would say!

And it’s like that!  Like that and like this!  Like this and like that!  Word to your Momma!  Or to your Grandmomma in this case!

Come check out our Hawaii tattoo studio for the best Hawaii custom tattoo from the team here at 434 Tattoo!  Our crew of talented Hawaii tattoo artists will be happy to assist you in finding a piece that is meaningful and/or controversial.  And we’ll ink you whether you’re media famous or everyday infamous!

Holla!

Becoming a Tattoo Artist in Hawaii

What does it mean to become a tattoo artist in Hawaii?

You might ask a member our Hawaii tattoo studioKarl Doubledown Juthans.  Hailing from Canada, we’ve tracked a few elements of Karl’s work over the years here at 434 Tattoo.

What began as an interest, grew into a Love,  and has become a profession, as Karl has weaved his way through different walks of Life and got tattooed more and more along the way.   Over the last few years, Karl has been apprenticing with Tattoo Adam, Owner and President of this humble Waikiki Tattoo shop.

He has come and gone from the islands only to return once more, with renewed energy and passion for the art and the industry.  It’s cool to see him back plying his trade here.

The beauty of youth is that with it is a hunger to succeed.  Check out what Karl does in his free time to continue his growth and development as a tattooist.

A tattoo he inked on himself!  This isn’t the first time he has taken the tattoo machine to his own skin believe it or not.  Check out this blast from the past of the first piece he inked on himself a few years back:

Day by day, we all grow, whether we want to or now and Karl is working hard to do just that in his trade.  Hard work in the trade is a big part of 434 Tattoo and the 2o plus years that Tattoo Adam brings to the table and as a leader.
