Tattoo Aftercare in Hawaii

tumblr_nc2zpdAZ8E1qijt23o1_500

Did you know that Spring is the perfect time to get a tattoo in Hawaii?

Well, the majority of the year works well because we always have phenomenal weather but the Spring is great because it’s just a bit cooler and the times where the heat & humidity are higher aren’t fun at all to deal with a healing tattoo.

Here a few tattoo aftercare tips to aid in the recovery of your skin and for your tattoo to look awesome for a lifetime!

  1. Listen to your artist’s advice.  They do this for a living and have practices that they have found to work.
  2. Never re-bandage a tattoo.  Remove the bandage after an hour to protect the skin in the beginning and to start the recovery process.
  3. Wash your new tattoo at least twice a day.  You can take as many showers as you like during the day but it is important that you clean your skin where the tattoo is so that proper healing can take place.
  4. Apply a light layer of moisturizer so that your skin can breathe after you wash the new ink and throughout the day should it start to dry out.
  5. Avoid swimming in the ocean or a pool right after getting a tattoo. Bodies of water have a plethora of fun little micro-organisms that would love to make your open flesh their home. You don’t want them living and making their mess on you!
  6. Don’t stay in direct sunlight for long, or in general, if possible.  If you’re job or life prevents you from avoid the sun, wear losing, comfortable clothing that will allow you to move freely and not chafe the sensitive, healing skin.
  7. Once the tattoo is healed and you resume your activity in the, wear sunscreen.  The sun will damage your skin period and it can wreak havoc on a tattoo.
  8. If you notice any irregularities, contact your tattoo artist. They can let you know if something isn’t right.  If swelling persists for longer than a few days, consider seeing a doctor as you might have a reaction that is better to get checked out than not.
  9. Think positive thoughts while your skin recovers.  The tattoo should be a powerful, awesome memory that you live with for life so the more positivity you express, the better all will be.
  10. And take care.  You live in this body once so enjoy this motherfucker!

If you are in the market for a new tattoo this spring, come visit our tattoo shop in Waikiki! We have won multiple awards over the year as one of Hawaii’s best tattoo studios and we work hard to continue our proud tradition.

Tell your story in Ink

Screen Shot 2016-02-06 at 11.04.17 AM

While people collect tattoos for a variety of reasons, it’s always meaningful when a deeper connection is connected to the piece.

This is an excellent time to reflect on the big stories & happenings in your life that you wish to record with your tattoos!  During the Winter months, tattoo artists typically have a bit more time open in their schedules and are happy to get started on these large undertakings.

“What’s the story?” Horiyume Tattoo Adam will ask, not only to guide the customer through the process but to see the entire picture and creative direction in his mind’s eye prior to the undertaking.  The more you share with your artist, the better they can assist with helping you get a truly one of a kind, amazing work of art.

“Your artist is a trained professional who knows what works and what doesn’t.”

Just like you’d ask a doctor for medical advice, ask your tattoo artist for tattoo advice. They can tell you about tattoo placement so that it flows nicely with your body, which is a living, breathing, MOVING canvas. That roaring lion by your elbow might look good when your arm is bent but it’s not going to work when you’re moving your arm.

“You want the tattoo to look good no matter what, and to flow with your movements.”

Trust your tattoo artist for any tattoo, especially when telling the important stories with these larger pieces.  You won’t regret it!

Our Waikiki tattoo studio is open 7 days a week from 10a – 10p, rain, shine, or otherwise. Come on down and let’s talk stories about your next inked story!

New Waikiki Tattoo Happenings

url
Horiyume with one of his famous clients, Mike Tyson

What up Hawaii Tattoo Lovers!

2016 is rolling along and we’re excited to work on some big custom tattoo pieces!

Along with the excitement we have some awesome news, Tattoo Adam (Horiyume) is now available full-time at our tattoo shop in Waikiki 434 Tattoo! This is a great time to start a new tattoo with him as we close out the Winter Season and to take advantage of his increased availability.

Why start thinking about inking now? Why not! Nah, joke, here’s a few tips to consider:

  1. Tattoos are priced and constructed based on the hours it will take to complete. For larger pieces and pieces in complex area of the bodies, more time will be necessary to complete the tattoo.
  2. Adding a little color? While some tattoos (depending on the size) can be completed in one sitting from one to three hours, larger more intricate pieces actually take a considerable amount of time longer. Many backpieces have 24 or more hours, that’s over a days worth of work put into them! For the client’s sake and health, it’s often best to break that up into smaller sessions.
  3. You’re not the only person getting tattooed. A tattoo artist books in advance because shops will often have multiple customers a day (think any other situation where you see someone by appointment) as well as walk-ins. While we want to ink you 24/7, it isn’t always realistic and we want to be sure to offer the best service to all who walk through the doors of our Waikiki Tattoo Shop!

Now come on down and share your next great idea with us. Our artists love to create original custom tattoos and are here to serve us.
