Tattoo Legends: Horiyoshi III

Horiyoshi III is a living legend tattooist whose work has been studied by aspiring artists of all types of mediums,  and or course, current and other accomplished custom tattoo artists as well.  Our Hawaii Tattoo Shop‘s own, Tattoo Adam, has had the honor of the experience of being tattooed by Horiyoshi himself!

If you walk around our award winning tattoo studio, 434 Tattoo, you will find pictures from the journeys and travels of Tattoo Adam, including a shot of him being worked on by the Master Tattooist in Japan in the Tebori or traditional Japanese tattooing fashion.

Many books have been written about the Master himself and 434’s own Marko Livingston is the new Rep for a line of T-Shirts featuring Horiyoshi’s artwork.  We’ve recently learned of a line of stores opening up to celebrate and commemorate the artwork of the legend!  You can learn more about this global chain at its website!

And if you can’t make it to Japan to see Horiyoshi, no worries, we’re not claiming to be him, but we are members of the Horiyoshi family so you can get down with us!  We are open every day rain, sun, shine, hail, floods, or tornados (hey we had a tornado in Hawaii a few weeks ago).

Custom Tattoo Styles: Taking It Back to the Old Skool

Old Skool Tattoos and Traditional Tattoos are both names referring to the Western version of tattooing: Americana Tattoos.  Tattoo Adam, Hawaii Tattooist extraordinaire and the homies at our Waikiki Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo, are well-versed in many styles and we surely pay homage to the roots of tattooing in the West.

Old Skool designs gained popularity during the days of another famous Hawaii Tattoo Artist.  In every tattoo shop around, you will find multiple sheets of tattoo flash displaying designs that have been popular for pretty soon a century! And that’s the beauty of art, it lives on long after we do.  It transcends, time, space, and embodies chaos and tranquility  through all of that.

In honor the Old Skool Tattoos and keeping with the trend of offering the best Hawaii Tattoo discounts, come in and request an Old Skool design that fits in the palm of your hand and Doubledown will ink you for $60!

And to the douche bag who didn’t think he could do straight lines, we think you need your eyes checked!  He’s being trained by Tattoo Adam and under the guidance of two of Hawaii’s other amazing tattooists, Marko Livingston and Andy Burley!

So come on down, free consultations, open 7 days a week, world famous artists and up and comers worth your time!  If you’re lucky, we’ll even blow the conch shell or run the tattoo train!

We are truly entering a global era and as much flack as the Internet gets for being like that Dave Chappelle Internet skit from years ago, you know that one where he goes in and sees the Pop-up ads, the porn room, and so forth, it has the potential to help people collaborate and bring us together.

And help you find your next tattooist!

Be sure to check out our Waikiki Tattoo Shop the next time you are in Honolulu.  We are open 12/7 from 10a to 10p, all consultations and touch-ups are free, and we have the best in Hawaii Tattoo Deals around!

Caffeine, Tattoos, and Pain

T-Pain got the real pain at 434 Tattoo, our Waikiki Tattoo Shop.  Mike Tyson got the real pain from shop owner, Tattoo Adam.  Thousands of others get the real pain each year from our talented team of Hawaii Tattoo Artists.  Point being, tattoos are painful…

Getting your first tattoo in Hawaii, or anywhere, for that matter can be a little intense.  No matter if it’s your first tattoo or an additional one, you don’t know what to expect or how your body is going to respond to the experience.  Here are a couple tips we’ve learned over the years so that the process flows:

Doubledown: “Don’t drink caffeine. In World War II, caffeine was given to prisoners so that the pain from torture would be felt more.”

Andy Burley: “Try to do something relaxing beforehand.  You’re going to want to feel relaxed, you know, get your 6-8 hours of sleep.  You should also eat a big meal and take about 45 minutes before getting your tattoo.  And relax.”

And if you’re wondering what to do after, we can go to Tattoo Adam for the (comic relief) wisdom on tattoo aftercare:  “Go to a dirty massage parlor with lots of germs, they’ll wash it down for you and put on the ointment…”

All jokes aside, there are a lot of different tips and techniques out there to make your tattoo experience, memorable, safe, and to ease the real pain! So come on down, our award-winning Honolulu Tattoo Studio, offers free consultations and touch-ups for life, and we always offer the best in Hawaii tattoo discounts and deals around!

Cool Things to Give Your Tattooist

Many people are so happy with their tattoos that they’ll wear for life, that they often reach out with a token of appreciation to us.  Here’s a list of some cool things you can give your Tattooist to share the love:

The Goose.  Hawaii Tattooist, Marko Livingston, recently received a bottle of Grey Goose, Patron, and some classical music from another satisfied customer!

Artwork.  There is a reason the word artist is a part of the role of Tattoo Artist… your tattooist is an artist!  They spend years of time, dedication, and practice to perfect their craft.  Marko and Tattoo Adam were featured in an art show last year and spend time drawing, painting, and doing other art on their own.  So if you see a book, a painting, something that you want to share, please do.

Baked goods.  Haute Dogs.  Other food items.  We’re human and our shop has to eat.  We’ll never turn down a good meal or two.  Or a t-shirt. We have to wear clothes too!

Hmm, what else, how about anything train related.  At our shop, we also have a custom train detailing business so we’re definitely pro train…

As an award-winning Hawaii custom tattoo parlor, the team at our Waikiki Tattoo Shop works hard to make sure that our customers enter and leave happy.  None of this gift giving is required, but a little love goes a long way in the world.  We put alot of love and energy into our work and we appreciate you and the different ways you say thanks!

So thanks to you too, we’ll see you soon at 434 Tattoo!

State of the Tattoo: Hawaii Tattoo Updates

Lots has happened so far in 2012. Gas prices have gone crazy just like they did last election cycle, Tattooed Wrestler CM Punk is in a Twitter feud with tattooed singers, a tattooed UFC fighter lost his title to another tattooed fighter.  Let’s see, what else?

We had our first leap year in four years last week, it’s already March, and yeah, you get the point, the madness of 2012 is upon us and the craziness that is to be expected in an award-winning tattoo shop in Waikiki continues.  434 Tattoo had a Groupon promotion earlier this year and we’d like to thank all of you who have acted, come in, and joined the 434 Ohana!

The tattoo discounts in Hawaii are ongoing at our Honolulu tattoo studio as Doubledown is doing the $60 dollar Conch Shell tattoo special.  Hawaii Tattooist Andy Burley is also offering $50 off his hourly rate.  Check out this piece Andy created recently:

Marko Livingston will be taking his show on the road and traveling and tattooing in Vancouver, LA, and San Francisco.  Be sure to stop in this week before he leaves to get the last minute custom tattoo piece you’ve been waiting for from him before he doesn’t come back…

Just kidding, Marko will be back in a few weeks, but some people are treating it like he’s never coming back.

As for Tattoo Adam, he’s holding it down and busy doing what he’s been doing for nearly 20 years and he took it a step further by taking a stand against some bad legislation in Hawaii recently.  He also set another goal this year of working on tattooing as many backpieces as he can and will be undertaking two more this month.

What a year already!  Before you know it, it’ll be May and Tattoo Adam will be taking off and headed to the jungles of the Philippines that month.  This traveling tattooist possibly not coming back is no joke, because there’s rumor he could be kidnapped out there or maybe buy a house…  Who knows, maybe both.  Just ask the Missus!

Regardless, live in the moment, get the real pain, and come down for your free consultation on a brand new tattoo today!

Tattoo Adam has been tattooing like crazy!  He

Hawaii Tattoo Stories: Sawed Off in the Walled Off…

‘To this day, there’s probably a shot gun still stuck in the wall.” ~ Adam Siehr, Owner of Hawaii Tattoo Shop 434 Tattoo

Tattoo Adam has seen a thing or two (or try many!) over the years living the life of a custom tattoo artist.  As a Father and owner of an award-winning tattoo studio in Honolulu, 434 Tattoo, the craziness continues but it’s a little different these days than during his early days…

“The first seven grand that I made tattooing went into the Court System.”

Let’s rewind how we got here.  I was sitting there under the machine and noticed this picture:

of Tattoo Adam and former World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and Boxing Legend Mike Tyson.  Adam was Tyson’s Tattoo Artist years ago before the infamous Holyfield fight. Anyway, I asked him what they talked about and that led too:

“I had to go to Court the next day so we talked about that.  I was in the back yard of my house shooting at skunks and saw all the lights of the cop cars.  So I ran upstairs and was trying to get rid of the cartridge in the bathroom but it went off again in the bathroom.  My roommate took all his guns and stuffed them in a slot machine we had but he had this shotgun that he threw down the wall.”

Apparently there was a fishtank with a hole behind it in the wall and you can read the headline above to know the rest…

So why did Tattoo Adam have to go to court.  Well it turns out they released him, asked him about a stun gun they found AFTER they released him and sent him his ticket in the mail.

Wait what?  He had to go to court even though they released him and didn’t charge him.

“Yea.”

Well, hard earned money, a good lawyer can go a long way.  Just ask (insert some celebrity here).  Glad to see that the system can work for the people as well.

And there you have another classic story from the life of a Tattooist.  Come on down to 434 Tattoo for all your custom tattoo needs and whatnot.  We offer free consultations, award-winning work and service, and if you’re lucky, we’ll even blow the conch shell for you where you’ll get your tattoo discount!
