Itʻs time to get the new year kicked off right and part of that includes good wishes and also getting real and rid of the stuff we donʻt need.  With that, 434 Tattoo, our award wining Honolulu Tattoo Studio, had to call the cops near the end of the year about a customer…

Last year we ran a very successful Living Social Tattoo Promotion and it was for an hour of custom tattoo work.  We are up front with all of our clients about the estimate and our shop hourly is posted online and told to each customer when going over the details of the tattoo. If there is anything unclear at any time please feel free to ask us.

In the past, we also ran a Groupon promotion that worked out really well too.  We want to keep offering these great Hawaii Tattoo Deals to our clients, friends, and family!  Unfortunately, we had to call the police because someone ran out without paying and without indicating any displeasure until sharing their side that they were unhappy with what they thought the promotion was in one of the online forums that was brought to our attention.  We sign contracts to make these things happen and are obligated to keep it within the details of what the coupon advertises.

A Loyal Customer: Hey Joe

From the archives of Tattoo Adam, a custom tattoo artist with over 20 years of experience in the industry and owner of the award winning Honolulu tattoo studio, 434 Tattoo.

“In 2002, a customer walked in to the shop (Aloha Tattoo ), got a tattoo. and kept coming back for more ink.

The customer by the name of Joe, spent 4 years in Hawaii, serving in the Army, getting ink and staying loyal to his artist.

Through out that time after so many hours under the needle Joe and Tattoo Adam established a friendship, which is a common thing sometimes.

Joe followed Tattoo Adam as he moved into a small custom tattoo studio on Kalakaua Ave, where he finished his back piece .

After his four years, Joe continued on with his duties elsewhere, committed to the Army.

Only 2 short years later Joe returned to Hawaii to his surprise to find Tattoo Adam moving closer into Waikiki, having opened his current studio 434 Tattoo, and as a welcome home surprise Joe found his Tattoo on his back running in a widely distributed magazine advertisement for the last 3 years he served here in Hawaii for the Army.

In those last 3 years, Joe lived around the corner from the studio and was always on and off the Island, it was confusing wondering were your friend keeps going, but when he was around our friendships really rooted well into this small little studio.

Joe this blog is for you brother, although you have left we will be waiting like all those other times for you to come back and be apart of your tattooed family ..

Caffeine, Tattoos, and Pain

T-Pain got the real pain at 434 Tattoo, our Waikiki Tattoo Shop.  Mike Tyson got the real pain from shop owner, Tattoo Adam.  Thousands of others get the real pain each year from our talented team of Hawaii Tattoo Artists.  Point being, tattoos are painful…

Getting your first tattoo in Hawaii, or anywhere, for that matter can be a little intense.  No matter if it’s your first tattoo or an additional one, you don’t know what to expect or how your body is going to respond to the experience.  Here are a couple tips we’ve learned over the years so that the process flows:

Doubledown: “Don’t drink caffeine. In World War II, caffeine was given to prisoners so that the pain from torture would be felt more.”

Andy Burley: “Try to do something relaxing beforehand.  You’re going to want to feel relaxed, you know, get your 6-8 hours of sleep.  You should also eat a big meal and take about 45 minutes before getting your tattoo.  And relax.”

And if you’re wondering what to do after, we can go to Tattoo Adam for the (comic relief) wisdom on tattoo aftercare:  “Go to a dirty massage parlor with lots of germs, they’ll wash it down for you and put on the ointment…”

Many people are so happy with their tattoos that they’ll wear for life, that they often reach out with a token of appreciation to us.  Here’s a list of some cool things you can give your Tattooist to share the love:

Artwork.  There is a reason the word artist is a part of the role of Tattoo Artist… your tattooist is an artist!  They spend years of time, dedication, and practice to perfect their craft.  Marko and Tattoo Adam were featured in an art show last year and spend time drawing, painting, and doing other art on their own.  So if you see a book, a painting, something that you want to share, please do.

APEC 2011 Honolulu Traffic Flow

APEC is going down and it’s going down hard on the island of Oahu, home to award winning Waikiki Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo.  With the arrival of world leaders from around the globe, traffic is been nothing short of horrendous for many commuters and the local businesses are feeling the effects.

“It’s been a ghost town.”  Tattoo Adam, shop owner.  As roads were subject to spontaneous closures to allow for safe passage for dignitaries and their entourages, drivers were waiting in traffic for many hours.

“I didn’t move for about an hour.”  Vince Mesa, manager of Hank’s Haute Dogs location in Waikiki’s International Marketplace, reported.  “I turned off my car and closed my eyes for a few minutes.”

The tide in Waikiki was strange all day, as this writer was one of the drivers stuck in traffic during the Chinese President‘s arrival and was working until 11p in the Marketplace.  With the arrival of APEC and three shifts, one customer came by with APEC ties. Only time will tell the economic boom that APEC provides.  While it’s still early, we’ve still many blessings to count.

“I’d like all our loyal customers who still braved the roads and stopped by.  And a big thanks to the military men and women who took the time to stop by on the 8th and 9th and for choosing us for their custom tattoo work.”  434 Tattoo specializes in the custom piece but also takes walk-ins interested in Tattoo Flash found on the walls.  Their skills cover the gamut of tattoo work from Asian Tattoo Styles, Hawaiian and Polynesian Themed Tattoos, and just about you name it.
