Spiritual Tattoos: Custom Backpiece Tattoo

This past week, taking another step towards his goal of making 2012 the year of the custom tattoo backpiece, Tattoo Adam, inked our writer, JMAW, with a ginormous tiger tattoo at our Waikiki Tattoo shop, 434 Tattoo.

“I had a dream of a Tiger crawling down my neck and the first tattoo that I ever wanted was a tiger across my back. Seemed like it was time, and…” ~ JMAW [The Dude could go on some more on the subject of spiritual tattoos but since he’s writing this we’ll cut it short ; )]

As you may or may not know, tattooing can be a form of spiritual medicine and many people get tattoos for spiritual reasons.  This writer tends to get his tattoos based on dreams that he had which outline elements of his spiritual journey.  Tattoo Adam has had some other people get tigers (including Mike Tyson) and get dream tattoos.

Whatever your dream tattoo is or if you need some spiritual healing, the Reverend Adam Siehr and the crew of our talented tattoo artists are more than willing to assist you and ink you!  Our Honolulu tattoo Parlor is located at 434 Ena Rd and is open 7 days a week from 10a-10p by appointment (walk-ins also welcome).

Hawaii Tattoo News: Tagging Trains

We love trains at 434 Tattoo and tag model railroad cars for people in addition to tattooing out of our Honolulu Tattoo Shop.  But here’s a little some some extra to reflect on when it comes to real trains…

With the Honolulu Mass Transit Project aka the Honolulu Rail rolling forward and the upcoming Hawaii State Legislative Session creeping along, it’s time for people to talk about the inevitable: taggers.  We love a good tag as much as the next art aficionado but graffiti is illegal people and we’re not bout that, that!

Taggers or graffiti artists have been known to “bomb” or paint trains, walls, and so forth all over the world.  Where rail projects are already completed, rail cars and trains have been hit by graffiti artists all across the United States.  The stations have even been hit.  It’s inevitable that the trains in Hawaii and the stations will also be hit.

Tattoo Adam suggested that lawmakers consider the idea of making a designated art area for taggers to release their graffiti.  Legal graffiti walls have been discussed for many years now and offer artists and cities alike a way to co-create and respect communities.

It remains to be seen what will happen with this issue but out-of-the-box thinking such as that of Tattoo Adam’s would surely be welcome in our State.  Hmmm, it is an election year…

We are 434 Tattoo and we love this community! Oh yeah, we tattoo as well ; )

Hawaii Tattoo Features: Calling All Backpieces!

Last year, Tattoo Adam focused on his first year of being a Dad and his goal of Fatherhood will continue throughout life.

Tattoo Adam is driven here in 2012 and he has set an additional goal: to do as many custom backpiece tattoos as possible here in the Chinese Year of the Dragon.  So if you’ve been looking to go big or go home and you’re interested in getting worked on by the best in the business, look no further than 434 Tattoo, our Honolulu Custom Tattoo Shop located in the heart of Waikiki.

One of our tattooists, Andy Burley, supports this goal so much, he underwent the tattoo machine and got worked on by Tattoo Adam himself.  His choice: a Tibetan Skull tattoo design.  Tibetan Skulls are symbolic in Buddhism to non-attachment to the physical body and also to illustrate the changing and temporary nature of life.

Wonder what Andy was releasing?  Maybe he’ll tell you during a tattoo session as well. His goal of growing in the journey of a tattooist is another good one for our team and who knows what types of changes await our Brother and 434 Ohana Member.

Whatever the tattoo desired, whatever your goal, nothing beats the goal of taking care and connecting with family. So come join our family and get that big piece or any other piece you can imagine done with our Waikiki Tattoo Parlor!

Horiyoshi III : From Heroes to Demons

Marko Livingston, a tattooist at 434 Tattoo, our Oahu tattoo Parlor, is the new Brand Representative for Heroes and Demons, a T-Shirt company featuring designs based on the artwork of world renowned Japanese Tattoo Artist, Horiyoshi III.  And did you know…

Tattoo Adam‘s backpiece tattoo has been worked on by the man himself at Horiyoshi‘s studio in Japan.  Horiyoshi is the second tattooist to be given the title and he received his own tattoo from Horiyoshi II.  His son is his apprentice and is currently next in line for the title coming up.

We’re looking forward to see what comes from this new venture and don’t worry, Marko will still be a part of the 434 Tattoo Ohana and will be tattooing at our Waikiki tattoo shop!

Three Years Running: Hawaii Custom Tattooing Studio of the Year

“No words.” ~ Tattoo Adam on his feelings about winning the award for the third time.

The Midweek Islander came out today and announced some great news!

Our Oahu Tattoo studio, 434 Tattoo, has been selected by the Consumer Business Review as The 2012 Custom Tattooing Studio of the Year for the third year in the row!

The Islander notes that:

Adam’s Custom Tattooing has a reputation for being the finest in design as well as realistic in initial cost.”

All of our team at our Waikiki Tattoo shop works hard to give our customers the best custom tattoo experience and works with customers to give them the most for their money.  We are grateful for this award and could not do it without all of our first time, repeat customers, family, and friends who come through our doors seven days a week, pretty much every day of the year!

So come on down because: The Champ is Here!

Hawaii Tattoo: The State of the Economy and Service

Now’s a great time to get in there for your brand new custom tattoo!  Our talented teams of tattooists are happy to help you stimulate the economy and will give you the best tattoo service out there.

Service is important in the world in general and customer service essential in business.  Having modified our bodies and in turn altered our experience in the world, we enjoy treating people with respect because we know what it’s like to walk into an establishment and feel like a book being judged by its cover.  When you have a visible tattoo, many people interact with you differently.  It’s probably a residual from previous eras, pirates, the military, and who knows. That’s not to say things aren’t changing…

In places like LA, there are over 150 tattoo parlors within a ten mile radius.  That’s like 15 LA Tattoo shops per mile!  Shows like Inked and featuring celebrity tattoo artists like Kat Von D have really helped to expose the world to tattoo culture and embrace the love of ink.

So what do you say?  Sound like it’s time to get that custom tattoo you’ve been waiting for? Yeah, we thought so too!

434 Tattoo, our award-winning Oahu tattoo Studio located in the Heart of Waikiki, Oahu, is open 10a – 10p rain or shine.  Note: If there was snow, we’d be open then too.

Oahu Tattoo: Tattoo Faux Pas

“It’s your right to share a tattoo with someone if you choose to.” ~ Tattoo Adam

At one time, having a tattoo would have been considered faux pas.  In this day and age, with it becoming more and more the norm, here’s some tattoo etiquette for your dome!

Ask to see a tattoo.

It’s the person with the custom tattoo‘s right to share it with you if they choose.  Even if you can see some of it, it’s inappropriate to grab the person, turn their arm or other body part at your discretion, lift up their clothing, etc.  In fact, if you think about it, it’s sexual harassment if you touch another person without their consent and it’s certainly awkward to remove someone’s clothing unless they give their consent.

It’s really strange that people do this because what makes people just think they can go up to a person they don’t know or don’t know well and grab them.  In some places, people get maced. In others, they cane people for things like spitting.

So I ask the question: why, really, why?

This writer recently experienced a number of people grabbing a newly tattooed piece that was worked on by Tattoo Adam of Oahu Tattoo Shop, 434 Tattoo.  One woman went so far as to trace the design with her fingers.  It’s not cool to just start touching someone you don’t really know.

Just a few thoughts there Friends.  Nothing world-changing like T-Pain getting tattooed like he did at our Waikiki Tattoo studio just a year ago but something this writer felt important to share with people.
