In progress – a vivid custom tattoo by Horiyume

Check out this new report online about what makes up the ink that is tattooed on people to create the permanent tattoo that many people wear.

“When I began, I learned the old school way of mixing your own inks.” Tattoo Adam (Horiyume), proud owner of our Waikiki tattoo shop shares.

Believe it or not, back in the day, people had to mix their own inks, knowing exactly what went into each color, in the exact quantity, and safely.  Horiyume was trained in this fashion so that he knew the history and culture of tattooing.

“You gotta know & respect your roots.” he adds.

Times have changed and it seems like a new company offering ink, pops up every month, trying to sell something special.  While many companies are reputable, buyer beware because sometimes, some companies don’t do it right or include an ingredient known to have bad side effects ranging from an ugly tattoo to infection that can really do harm to a person’s overall health.

Here at 434 Tattoo, one of the best tattoo shops in Hawaii, we only use products that are safe, legal, and in accordance to the rules and regulations of the State of Hawaii Department of Health.  Our team is trained in all the proper protocol to administer tattoos in a healthy fashion and each tattoo artist who walks through our doors to work is licensed by the Department of Health.

“It’s important to me that all of our customers have a great experience here.” Adam adds.  “We want this to be one of the happiest places they visit as they created this lasting memory.”

Create a happy memory for yourself here at our Waikiki tattoo studio knowing that your in the hands of licensed and trained professionals! We’re open 7 days a week, rain or mostly shine, from 10a – 10p.

Looking forward to inking ya!

Aloha!

Star Wars, Tattoos, & Apprentices

The world, particularly the internet, has been a buzz with the new Star Wars movie that is coming out on Dec. 18.  Seems like every day there’s some new piece of news, seconds of footage, & more that has audiences hungering for the Force to be with them. Wonder if there will be an influx of people with new Star Wars tattoos?

Something about Masters, Jedi & Sith alike, and their apprentices, eh?

Snapchat-1671604485625014969

Speaking of apprenticeships, Horiyume Tattoo Adam has had a number of people aspire to apprentice and become tattoo artists but only a handful have ‘graduated’ and become full-fledged tattootists.  It’s a tough process that requires hard work, dedication, artistic interest, & talent.

“I was brought up in the old school tattooing world so I teach that along with the current methods.” Adam shares.

Meet Tiff Domingo. A Kauai native by way of Oregon & Pennsylvania, with stops across the continental US along the way, Tiff’s been with our Waikiki Tattoo Shop ohana since August of this past year and got licensed with the state in July of this year.

Tiff has been working hard to make it in her apprenticeship and is currently on the journey.  Pictured above, you’ll find Tiff undertaking one her apprenticeship tests: putting a tattoo on herself under the watchful eye of Horiyume.

Tiff likes & aspires to create new traditional pieces, sacred geometry tattoos, 3-D biomech tattoos, and portrait tattoos. She is currently working on developing her flash in addition to her duties at the shop.  To follow Tiff’s progress and see some of her art, check out her Instagram @tiffany024.

We are pulling for Tiff to rise up in the ranks of tattooing.  Under the guidance of Adam’s two plus decades in the tattoo industry, the sky could be the limit.

New Japanese Tattoo Styles – The Emoji Tattoo

Need a tattoo idea?

Oftentimes, people just want to get a tattoo to commemorate a time in their life or a trip to the islands when they stop by 434 Tattoo, our tattoo shop in Waikiki.  So they don’t really have a set idea in place.  While it’s always a good practice to have an idea before coming down, but fear not!  Our licensed professionals are more than willing to help folks figure out their next piece.

Our shop is one of the best Hawaii tattoo shops and we’ve gotten there because we help our customers with all sorts of questions.  So if you need an idea and are looking for something that’s in tune with popular culture today, consider the newest Japanese tattoo:

an Emoji Tattoo.

11117714_825147087118_2122953811_n

The poop emoji tattoo isn’t one we’d recommend off the bat, to each her/his own though, we won’t judge you, but it is one of the more popular emojis out there.  There are a ton of other popular emojis to consider as well.

Celebrities, most notably Drake, who seems to have embodied the Midas Touch, debuted a praying emoji tattoo earlier this year.  People all around the globe have also been quick to be a part of this new tattoo trend.

Emojis humble roots trace back to Japan, where the original meaning of the word was pictograph.  As their popularity grew, it has evolved to mean and represent picture characters, that are all over (aka invaded) pop culture, text messages, and a growing number of people’s bodies.

The beauty of this type of tattoo is that you can go as big, or small, as you like, and not stray from the intent of the emoji.  For an extensive look at emoji tattoos, check out this link.

So if you’re ready to get emoji with a custom tattoo or say F*ck your emoji and want a huge massive traditional Japanese tattoo piece, we got your ink needs covered!  Our Waikiki Tattoo shop is open 7 days a week from 10a – 10p.

Convention Season in Hawaii – The First Annual Hawaii Cannabis Expo

Screen shot 2015-07-20 at 3.24.40 PM

The First Annual Hawaii Cannabis Expo was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, this past weekend!

Our Waikiki tattoo shop recently had the pleasure of inking one of the State Representatives from New Hampshire, who have been at the forefront of policy making related to Marijuana, in particular in decriminalizing this herbal medicine that has been used by humanity through its history.

Hawaii currently has 13,000 active, registered medical marijuana patients.  With the evolving stance about medical marijuana and dispensaries here in Hawaii, dispensaries are estimated to bring in an additional $5 million in revenue to the State of Hawaii.

Many feel that it’s only a matter of time before this is fully legalized and following in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington, particularly with both States reporting huge windfalls because of the initiative.

Stay tuned for more info on this issue as we watch how it all unfolds!

Aloha and in the meanwhile, come on down and get your ink on with the talented team here!  Led by Tattoo Adam, a 20+ year veteran in the game, we’ll be featuring a special guest tattoo artist Takashi, who will be here for another convention coming up, the Pacific Ink & Art Expo!
