Great News in Hawaii

We have some great news about happenings this week in Hawaii.  First up, our custom tattoo artists, Tattoo Adam and Marko Livingston, will have their artwork featured at the Center Stage Stage Art Show.  Be sure to check it out and get your own painting to adorn the walls from your favorite tattooists.

We also have this breaking news and are ready to report that our Weezy Forecast predicts without a doubt that a Category Massive Level event will hit as the flow of Lil Wayne touches down with Weezy’s 2011 Hawaii Concert on Sept. 24.  If you haven’t copped a ticket, don’t worry, you can check out the radio stations because it sounds like those fools copped them all and are giving them away like grains of rice.

And maybe the greatest news of all: I just got a call from GEICO and saved money on auto insurance.  Nah, just joke, we know that ain’t new, but the Gecko is kinda cool.

And while this blog didn’t focus too much on it, we also tattoo people.  So what are you waiting for?  Duh, nothing!  Come on down to our Waikiki Tattoo Parlor, the happiest place on Earth and throughout the galaxy, 434 Tattoo.

A Public Service Announcement: Some Things to Think About With a Tattoo

Recently, the Honolulu Weekly featured a write-up discussing phenomenal tattooist Mike Ledger talking about a kid he had met with a tattoo his face.  When we read that, we got the impression that the kid had given up and had gotten a tattoo on his face because he gave up and that seems to be a big part of what’s happening with many members of the current generation.

In this blog, we wanted to take some time to talk about the other side of custom tattooing.  Anytime someone does something like that, it is counter-culture, not going with the norm, and with it come different experiences for the rest of life.  In anything, our actions have repercussions and whether we agree with it or not, great tattoos come with great responsibility.  The joke on the Spiderman line (with great power comes… etc.) aside, it’s true.  People need to realize that a tattoo really is for life.  Celebrities like Angelina Jolie can afford tattoo removal.  Celebrities can also get tattoos on their face like Lil Wayne or Gucci Mane, who has an ice cream cone on his face, and all over their bodies because they can afford to.  Athletes can get super bowl rings tattooed on their neck because they can.  You can too, it’s your choice but society doesn’t judge those in the limelight quite the same way they do as the average person.  Unfortunately in this day and age, many people are still afraid of tattoos and attach stereotypes to them.

While we are obviously pro-tattoo, we just want some people to think things through before going and getting a tattoo on their face or anywhere else on their body just because it is en vogue and especially if they are giving up on existence.  Getting a tattoo as a statement of “I Quit at life” is not the way to Flow.  As long as you’re alive, there’s still an opportunity to find something worth experiencing and to make a change in life if one is not so stoked on it.  Getting a tattoo on your face as a way to throw in the towel is not the answer. Tattoos are powerful forms of expression and should be meaningful.

That being said, we’re also pro be true to your heart and we just want our customers to walk away satisfied with a piece on their body, wherever they choose, that they can enjoy for life. If you’re thinking about getting a visible tattoo and don’t know if you’ll like it later, sleep on it, keep it in mind for a year.  Then if you’re still set on it, at least you gave it alot of thought and are committed to it.

With that, thank you to all our customers, past, present, and future.  We’re here to support you through whatever part of the tattoo process you are in.  If you’d like to discuss this or other tattoo related issues, including getting a free consultation on your next custom piece, come on down to 434 Tattoo, our Honolulu Tattoo Shop today.

Letter from the Editor

At 434 Tattoo, our Honolulu Tattoo Shop, located in the Heart Chakra of Waikiki, we like to have fun.  It’s one of the reasons we are the happiest place on earth, or close to it at least (depending on who you ask).  And why not?  Is not life short (or fast, also depending on who you ask)?

We are pretty diverse too, just take a look at our blogs.  We take a stab at filling the void left behind by The Crypt Keeper and Tales from the Crypt with Tales from the Tattoo Parlor.  We offer cutting edge journalism with our Story Told in Ink Series.  We also like to share the bright lights with you as we highlight some of the celebrity tattoo stories we have.  We’re even trying our hand at meteorology with our Weezy reports, keeping you posted on Lil Wayne’s concert in Hawaii. We have just a little bit of everything here, just like our body of custom tattoo work covers all types of tattoo styles including Traditional Asian Tattooing and Hawaiian Tattoos.

But just like our work on your body, on work online is all about you, the customer, the reader, the people if you smell-el-el what, 434 Tattoo, the number one tattoo parlor in Honolulu, the people’s champ, is cooking!

Chee huu to you Buddy.  Note: Photo above taken by yours truly from 808 Ink Magazine featuring 434 as the first listing in the directory.

Weezy Forecast

Breaking News!!!

Storm's a brewing...

On the heels of the stormy weekend on the East Coast of the US, another storm is shaking the earth, as the Weezy storm made landfall today.  This storm is sure to fill the airwaves with the sound of more of that Lil Wayne thunder…

Tha Carter IV was released today with much fanfare and though Weezy said, Sorry 4 the Wait, the wait was well worth it and this is sure to be another classic.  We expect the storm to reach epic proportion in the coming month when the Tattooed Celebrity Rapper makes a visit to the islands.

Speaking of visits, T-Pain, who’s worked with Lil Wayne in the past (and has also made a guest appearance at our Honolulu Tattoo Parlor) makes a cameo on the album.

So whether it’s storm rain, rhymes of Wayne or Pain, any, and all, we at 434 Tattoo, are here to show you how to love custom tattooing.  Come in today to our Waikiki Tattoo shop, and let’s get to rapping about your custom tattoo!

We Paint On More Than Just Skin…

Next time you’re browsing our friendly neighborhood Waikiki Tattoo Parlor for your first/next/most wanted custom tattoo, be sure to look up.  Not only might you see one of the Tattoo Gods but you can also check out the paintings we have on display/for sale created by the one and only Marko Livingston.

Marko and Tattoo Adam will also have some of their other work on display next month at the upcoming Art Show at Inspiration, Honolulu Design Center.  More details on the date and time of the show to follow…

Speaking of next month, Lil Wayne visits Hawaii to hustle hard and perform on September 24.  As of now, there have been  no other Weezy sightings yet… But here’s a cool website to tide you storm chasers over and get your fix on the NOLA native and where you can download Lil Wayne’s underground mixtapes (and remixes of his hits) for free.  JMAW’s Note: If you haven’t, Dedication Volume 2 and No Ceilings are two of the sickest albums Mr. Carter has ever made, period.

Until next time, keep on tuning into the same 434 channel, same 434 time.

Polynesian Face Tattoos

Only in Polynesia, will you find tattoos as intricate and laid out in such a way on the body as this one…

In particular with the Maori people of New Zealand, the more tattoos one had was associated with social ranking and only the highest ranking could get the facial tattoo (ta moko).

While facial tattoos are not necessarily a new thing, as evidenced by Rappers Lil Wayne (coming to Hawaii in September), Gucci Mane, and the Game, they are certainly one of the more painful forms to expression and body modification via tattoo.

Here at 434 Tattoo, Hawaii’s #1 destination for custom tattoos, you can come on in and get all your meaningful Polynesian and Hawaiian tattoo designs done.   Whether you are ready for your facial tattoo, a sleeve, a body suit, one piece, as always, consultations on your tattoos are free.  So stop on by, our Honolulu tattoo parlor is open seven days a week from 10a-10p.  We look forward to working with you!

Hawaii Storm Report: Tropical Storm Weezy

There’s a tattoo storm building up and will roll through Hawaii as Rapper Lil Wayne performs on Oahu in September.  We will keep you posted about this event as it will most likely build to a category 5 type of storm in the islands.

Wayne, also known as Weezy, is a main-stay in the celebrity tattoo scene.  At last count, he had between 8 to 11 tattoos… on his face!

The guy is also a pretty successful on the music-side of things with Multi-Platinum Albums, Grammy Awards, the Young Money Record Label, as well as being the one of the most featured artists in the industry.

Stay tuned as your talented team of tattoists and reporters cover this storm.  We have had Grammy Winners (T-Pain) stop by to get inked in the past and our Waikiki tattoo shop has even been hit by a flood awhile back.  But the storm of Lil Wayne would be something far different.

Stay tuned as we track this storms development and discuss some of the tattoos of Lil Wayne…
