New Japanese Tattoo Styles – The Emoji Tattoo

Need a tattoo idea?

Oftentimes, people just want to get a tattoo to commemorate a time in their life or a trip to the islands when they stop by 434 Tattoo, our tattoo shop in Waikiki.  So they don’t really have a set idea in place.  While it’s always a good practice to have an idea before coming down, but fear not!  Our licensed professionals are more than willing to help folks figure out their next piece.

Our shop is one of the best Hawaii tattoo shops and we’ve gotten there because we help our customers with all sorts of questions.  So if you need an idea and are looking for something that’s in tune with popular culture today, consider the newest Japanese tattoo:

an Emoji Tattoo.

The poop emoji tattoo isn’t one we’d recommend off the bat, to each her/his own though, we won’t judge you, but it is one of the more popular emojis out there.  There are a ton of other popular emojis to consider as well.

Celebrities, most notably Drake, who seems to have embodied the Midas Touch, debuted a praying emoji tattoo earlier this year.  People all around the globe have also been quick to be a part of this new tattoo trend.

Emojis humble roots trace back to Japan, where the original meaning of the word was pictograph.  As their popularity grew, it has evolved to mean and represent picture characters, that are all over (aka invaded) pop culture, text messages, and a growing number of people’s bodies.

The beauty of this type of tattoo is that you can go as big, or small, as you like, and not stray from the intent of the emoji.  For an extensive look at emoji tattoos, check out this link.

So if you’re ready to get emoji with a custom tattoo or say F*ck your emoji and want a huge massive traditional Japanese tattoo piece, we got your ink needs covered!  Our Waikiki Tattoo shop is open 7 days a week from 10a – 10p.

Guest Tattoo Artist in Waikiki – Book Now!

unnamed-5

Macho, guest tattoo artist from Korea will be joining the ohana here at our Waikiki tattoo studio starting in November! We are very excited for him to be coming out to the islands and being a part of one of Hawaii’s best tattoo shops!

You can start booking your appointments for a slot with Macho by contacting us via email or telephone, both listed below. Walk-ins are of course welcome though there are the following advantages to booking ahead:

  1. Guaranteed time slot – Your scheduled appointment guarantees you will have an appointment with the artist that you want to do the piece for you.  Walk-in runs the risk of the artist not being available, you both not having enough time, or something happened where the shop is not open around the time you walk in.
  2. Advance consultation – We offer free consultations on tattoos to all tattoos but if you book with us, that gives you the opportunity to talk with your artist, factor in any questions you might have, and also do some research.  Oftentimes, an artist will ask for an image for reference so you can print one or share it via smartphone.  The consultation will make the tattoo process much smoother.
  3. For a Guest Artist – Their schedules tend to be a little bit more intense because they have things they need to take care of off-site and the demand for their work is higher because of their limited availability.  Don’t miss this great opportunity to have a truly unique tattoo from one of Korea’s finest tattoo artists!

We’re happy to help you no matter what you want to do so no worries if you can’t schedule an appointment if it’s beyond your control.  It’s fast paced, complicated life these days so we understand.  But if you can schedule, we recommend it so that we can guarantee you we’ll have the time to get you that next amazing piece of ink!

Aloha!

Custom Tattoos For Everyone

Tattoos are everywhere!

sprint-all-in
David Beckham, Sprint’s new spokesperson

From retired international soccer star David Beckham’s campaign with Sprint to new stories of tattooed celebrities popping up[ every day (seriously, a Google search of Tattoo News and you’ll see mention of Kendall Jenner, Ed Sheeran, Rihanna, & Shia LeBouf all sporting new ink this week (8/10-14/2015), tattoos are going mainstream like wildfire!

Open up Instagram and there are constantly photos trending of tattoo conventions, custom tattoo work, tattoo flash sheets & art, as well as new, fresh tattoos all over the feed. Is this a new age of tattoo acceptance?  Or like everything else, is this just a trend where this is what’s popular?
It’s probably a little bit of both. Hopefully, acceptance and tolerance prevails during the next wave for getting inked isn’t so popular.
AND no matter the case, we always practice great tattooing and tolerance of people from all across the board at our Waikiki tattoo studio.  We’re open 7 days a week, rain or shine, though it’s mostly shine in Hawaii, especially this hot ass Summer!  Our team has a diverse background and is led by Tattoo Adam, who has tattooed for over 20 years.

Collaboration between Tattoo Adam & Takashi

Guest artist, Tebori tattooist Takashi, has arrived and is getting down to business at our Waikiki tattoo shop 434 Tattoo! Takashi has joined us in the lead-up to the 2015 Pacific Ink & Art Expo, also referred to as the Hawaii Tattoo Convention.

This is a wonderful opportunity to get an authentic Japanese tattoo experience outside of Japan.  In recent years, we have developed a tebori space in our Waikiki Tattoo Parlour. This quiet space will allow you to get the most out of your tebori experience so if you’re remotely curious, come on down and check us out.  We’re open 7 days a week, appointments preferred though walk-ins are always welcome, and we offer free consultations.

Japanese tattooing and Japanese tattoo culture are core to our shop.  Though experienced and talented in all forms of tattooing, we have a particular passion and connection to the vein of the artform that stems from Japan.

Early on in his life, our waikiki tattoo studio owner Tattoo Adam was exposed to tattoos & art.  When he saw the Japanese full-body tattoos, a passion developed.  Adam has since been to Japan countless times, experiencing tebori himself from the master Horiyoshi III.

We are located at 434 Ena Road & open from 10a – 10p.  Call us today to arrange a consultation or appointment.

With Takashi coming to Honolulu as a guest artist at our studio along with taking some time at the upcoming Pacific Ink & Art Expo, this is as close to an authentic, traditional Japanese tattoo experience that you can get outside of Japan! Though most of the outlining of the piece is done with a machine, all of the shading is done with in the traditional handpoking style.

Convention Season in Hawaii – The First Annual Hawaii Cannabis Expo

Screen shot 2015-07-20 at 3.24.40 PM

The First Annual Hawaii Cannabis Expo was held in Honolulu, Hawaii, this past weekend!

Our Waikiki tattoo shop recently had the pleasure of inking one of the State Representatives from New Hampshire, who have been at the forefront of policy making related to Marijuana, in particular in decriminalizing this herbal medicine that has been used by humanity through its history.

Hawaii currently has 13,000 active, registered medical marijuana patients.  With the evolving stance about medical marijuana and dispensaries here in Hawaii, dispensaries are estimated to bring in an additional $5 million in revenue to the State of Hawaii.

Many feel that it’s only a matter of time before this is fully legalized and following in the footsteps of Colorado and Washington, particularly with both States reporting huge windfalls because of the initiative.

Stay tuned for more info on this issue as we watch how it all unfolds!

Aloha and in the meanwhile, come on down and get your ink on with the talented team here!  Led by Tattoo Adam, a 20+ year veteran in the game, we’ll be featuring a special guest tattoo artist Takashi, who will be here for another convention coming up, the Pacific Ink & Art Expo!
