Traditional Japanese Tattoos in Hawaii

Screen shot 2016-03-22 at 4.25.24 PM

Japanese tattooing is very near and dear to our hearts here at 434 Tattoo, our Waikiki custom tattoo shop.

A few years ago, Tattoo Adam was recognized by the legendary Japanese tattoo master Horiyoshi III with the name Horiyume, which recognized Adam’s commitment to the art, his years of service, and dedication to improve.  One ways that Horiyume does that is by practicing the artform, in multiple fashions.

“Sensei (Horiyoshi III) will practice painting every day to continue working on the art.” Horiyume comments.

If you are interested in getting a traditional Japanese style tattoo in Hawaii, we have multiple options available through Horiyume for you.  The experience of getting a traditional Japanese tebori tattoo is but one of example how Horiyume can provides custom Japanese tattoo artwork for clients.

“It’s a bit more relaxing, almost like a massage.” One client remarked in reference to his experience with Tebori.

The sacred connection between tattooing is often lost in today’s popular culture but the roots of our traditions hold value to the holistic being whether they can be seen or not.

Check out this video by Vice to learn more about the sacred art of Japanese tattooing and come on down to get your own sacred ink on!

Best Hawaii Tattoo Shops for Japanese Tattoo

Japanese tattoos have long held allure to those of us living in Western civilization.

From association with the honorably, strong Samurai Warriors of the past to the powerful Yakuza figures of more recent years, Japanese culture signifies much to people from all walks of life.  Add in the depth and meanings behind the symbols of Japanese tattoos and you have a truly unique artform that transcends time.

With all that going for Japanese tattoo styles, it’s no small wonder why they are so popular!

Over the years, Tattoo Adam, our Owner & Lead Artist of our Waikiki tattoo shop, 434 Tattoo, has seen it all.  In his two plus decades of tattooing he has also evolved and cultivated his own, unique custom tattoo style that is heavily influenced by traditional Japanese artwork.

Adam was recently honored by the revered Japanese Tattoo Master Horiyoshi III when he was named Horiyume by the legend.  It was a symbol of the time, study, & hard work that Adam put into the craft. Around the same time, Adam began to take his practice of the traditional tattoo methods further by taking up tebori, Traditional Japanese Tattooing.

So if you’re looking for a truly original and authentic Japanese tattoo experience in Hawaii, stop by our tattoo studio in Waikiki!  Ask for Horiyume and prepare to get your suit on!
